Electrical issues

Honda CR-V 2011  355000 miles
First the doors started unlocking while the car was off. The rear wiper has a mind of it's own. Now the anti theft activated and I am stranded. I think something got wet as it started in a rain storm. The dash lights came on with D flashing and the little green anti theft light came on all without the keys in the ignition. I should add this all started after I had to use the cilinder lock bypass to get the key out the other day.

Car won't Start, No crank, no click SolvedSolved

Honda CR-V 2003 EX 2.4L 226000 miles
Replaced battery. Ran for a 2 days then no start. The mechanic added metal caps to my battery posts as clamps were loose. It fixed the problem for 2 weeks. Problem returned. Jumped car with cables reversed. Cleaned corrosion on the red battery cable. Worked for another week. Then it just stopped cranking completely. Tested battery good/holding charge. Replaced the starter & ignition switch. Checked ignition fuse & engine compartment fuses are okay. Any suggestions?

Liac from United States 4 years ago
Also recently had my 4wd/awd real time automatic 99 honda crv towed in gear on a dolly and now having major issues with drive system/emergency brakes/ and shifting gears. Am worried they wrecked the transmission and underbody braking system. Engine makes lots of bad noises, clunks, weak idle, misfire, stalling, etc. when a/c is on. If a/c off it idles fairly well. Was able to do a ecu/ecm reset today but, even before the reset, it's not throwing any codes and check engine or maintenance required lights don't stay on. Best guess of one mechanic was idle control valve/tps/o2 sensors, etc. Not sure what to do next. Have wheels rotated and balanced? Replace rear differential fluid? Had fuel drained and oil change last week, made no difference. Fuel, fuel injector, fuel line? What next? Please help, thanks. I've had this car for 20 years and it's never acted up so bad before the new battery I got put in backwards eight months ago, and then a tow by the city while I was out of town. They were working on the road and needed to move it and had no key to put it in neutral. Also, they thought it was a fwd, not a 4wd/awd real time. So, yeah, it's been a real drag!
AlpineMt Man from United States 4 years ago
Sorry to hear of your troubles! First thing is do not panic or assume the worst. Focus on your biggest issue with the car first.

Sounds like you already know the Honda owners manual says to never tow your car with a dolly. Always use a car carrier to prevent damage. I had to insist on this on several occasions with my insurance company who sent the wrong tow truck the first time and offered to do it again.

I've noticed some strange sounds when the a/c is on my 03 Honda CRV. It could be that your a/c condensor is going out. Does it blow cool air? Check all your hoses in the engine compartment to see if there is a crack that could be starving your engine of air. Has your air filter been replaced? There is one in the engine compartment. Have you checked/replaced your spark plugs? Ever had your valves adjusted? If so, that is critically needed.
I am not an expert so I can't offer extensive help. Hope you find a solution soon.

I discovered thru diagnostics of the starter relay pinholes in the fuse box under the dash that after replacing a new relay it had to be my new starter was bad. Sure enough, swapped it out for another new one and everything is fine!
Liac from United States 4 years ago
Thanks for reply...I checked everything you mentioned and it's fine when the car is in neutral; soon as I put it into drive or reverse all hell brakes loose...I've narrowed it down to the braking system, the fuel line, and/or the gear box in the transmission. Having it towed next week so mechanic can check out underbody brakes, sensors, idle air control valve, etc.
Liac from United States 4 years ago
Will also check the starter relay pinholes as you suggested; maybe that's it.

Blown interior fuses SolvedSolved

If the fuses are still blowing after you have replaced them, this is a sign of a larger electrical issue in your Honda CR-V. The problem could be caused by a short circuit in one of the electrical components that is connected to the auxiliary power units, such as the radio, the dome light, or the power outlets. In order to fix the problem, you will need to locate the source of the short circuit and repair it. This may involve checking wiring and connections, as well as replacing any damaged components.
To start, you can check the wiring and connections for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Check the wiring harnesses that run to the auxiliary power units and look for any broken wires or loose connections. You may also want to check the wiring and connections for the related components, such as the radio, the dome light, or the power outlets.
If you cannot find any obvious signs of damage or loose connections, you may need to use a circuit tester or a multimeter to trace the electrical current and locate the source of the short circuit. This will require some electrical knowledge and experience, so you may want to consider seeking the assistance of a professional mechanic if you are not comfortable working with electrical systems.
Billy from Great Britain 4 years ago
Thanks Bruce I'll it at least gives me somewhere to start looking and I'm pretty sure it's going to be an auxiliary fuse under the hood

That is likely something called a battery parasitic draw. When you have wiring that is either partially grounding or an accessory that is doing a similar thing it will drain the battery. You will need to get a multimeter and pull the fuses one at a time. Once you pull the fuse put one lead on the “ground” any bare metal on the body and the other into where the fuse once was. You will have the car off and the multimeter set to ohms or continuity often it’s the same thing. And you’ll do that for every fuse noting each one that produces a reading. A reading other than 0.0 or OL or no reading is bad. You do not want any part of your electrical system to be connected to the frame. Once you have found the fuse(s) you will need to find where they go and find a break in the wiring or component. https://youtu.be/RkzSub1dtNQ?is=cS-bpk… Is a ok source for an additional way to check for this if you find video instructions are more helpful.
Tydfil from Great Britain 4 months ago
I had this exact issue. It went on for nearly a year. It was intermittent sometimes the battery would drain. Sometimes it would be absolutely fine.
Which made it harder for the electrical mechanic to pinpoint the drain it was eventually found to be in car Bluetooth

As I had a new media centre put in with its own Bluetooth they just disconnected the Bluetooth and it’s been fine ever since
Reginald from United States a month ago
I don't know what's causing this because it's constantly draining the battery and I see the car radio asking me for the code and it can't be opened.

After a new windshield was put in the battery drained, and the car won SolvedSolved

Honda CR-V 2015 Ex 90000 miles
I gave Safelite technician the keys to my 2015 CRV. I requested specifically not to replace my windshield wipers as my right wiper did not work. After installation he handed me the keys, and I noticed that the headlights seemed dim and wondered why he had left them on, but didn’t say anything. Within an hour I attempted to start the car and leave. The car would not start. It would not even turn over. IAlso all the dashboard lights were flashing even ones I had never seen before. I noticed that now the windshield wiper worked. I charge the battery with my own battery charger. I called in a AAA… Read complete

Wow, no comments I thought somebody would have had some idea why the car won’t start directly after the windshield was installed. The Honda technician online said that my battery was discharged and told me to get a jumpstart for 15 minutes and keep it running, but I did that and I also even got a whole new battery. The car turns over but does not finish. It’s like the gas goes to the ignition, but it doesn’t finish throwing up lol

I figured out that my ac has a relay compressor from googling and then watching this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oQ-gj…

The first relay I bought from AutoZone for $12 was a little too tall, even though it fit. I put the old one back in until I was able to go back and exchange the new one. I got the new shorter one after church (Palm Sunday) but haven't taken the time to change it out yet (trying to get my taxes done). I'm sure it's gonna work because the original relay has been cooling better just from taking it out and putting it back in.
Tires Plus (Fowler Ave. In Tampa, FL) charged me $236 and said they added freon and cleaned my ac system. It cooled for about a mile after I left and then went back to blowing hot air. I took it back to TP and they said I needed to replace the compressor (quoted me approx $1100 for parts and labor and said I couldn't buy my own compressor and have them put it in) They said nothing about any relay compressor. Nothing noted on the repair bill either. I've been getting better cooling with what I've done on my own following the YouTube video. Hmmm... TP receipt: https://1drv.ms/b/c/3022ca5e40fd0ce5/E…

Getting code P1381 randomly

We are having problem with P1381 already replaced spark plugs, cables, checked the alternator, replaced the distributor, cleaned all the sensors attached to the throttle body my son said he just gets the code when the car is warm and it is hot outside (Texas 100F) Does anybody have any idea about what should we check next. Bad electrical wires. Tested individual wires and found that power is not coming through to where the fuses plug in. The only thing in between are wires so chalk it up to bad wiring. Took a lot of time to figure out it was bad wiring with proof instead of assuming it was bad wiring.
