Honda Accord 2019 Sport/1.5L/4D
The best:The fuel economy, at its peak I’ve gotten 32-37 MPG. It rides really smooth, and has a decent “autonomous driving” AKA cruise control, automated braking(sensor in the front that tracks when to brake), lane assist(doesn’t allow car to drift out of lane)
The worst:Oh, where do I even begin?
It all seems to stem from the poor design of the 10th generation 1.5 L Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Apparently, the issue is oil fouling or an improper mixing of something within the turbocharger. I’ve heard of people finding traces of coolant on the spark plugs or around the cylinder heads, which causes the improper firing of multiple cylinders, primarily the 1/4 cylinder. This results in the car going into limp mode and even “skipping, fluttering, or stalling,” losing almost all power. As a result, the engine light flashes, and the engine or key needs to be reset to clear the check engine light. The emissions light is the main issue, but it also causes various seemingly unrelated problems, such as lane keep, braking systems, and many others.
If you look at the Facebook page or any other page where people have over 100,000 miles on their cars, this issue is definitely part of the conversation. Not to mention, they frequently blow head gaskets at as low as 50,000 miles. It’s frustrating because it’s a really great car with so much potential. :( There’s a class-action lawsuit going on regarding this exact issue, but it seems to be limited to one state, and they don’t appear to be taking any action. It’s a major Honda issue!
