I was driving down the road and the truck started hesitating and running rough I tryed giving it more gas and it just kept falling on its face I barely made it back to my house only going like 7 miles an hour and I can try to start it now but have to hold the gas to the floor and it will barely idle or stay running very rough I have check fuel pressure I have checked my timing I am getting good spark on all my wires I'm lost on what els it could be I have replaced plugs fuel filter plz help
Sounds like maybe fuel pump. Pump and strainer are in the gas tank. They are a ceiled unit. Would recommend replacing if you are having trouble. Check for a service hole before removing the entire tank first. Can save a lot of time.
@netdrummerI thought fuel pump first thing but I had three that went bad on me over life and the all gave me time before they just died ,just want to test a few things before I pull the tank ,I was thinking someone put stuff in the gas. Idk.
What did u do? I just bought one today test drive went fine I had a 2 hr ride home she fell on her face and died! I let her sit for a few when I started her back up full revs so I dumped and let her roar need less to say back on her face in 20 minutes and less time in-between attempts she made it home tho
Mine is doing the same thing. Had the fuel pump and filter replaced as well as the catalytic converters
Could the manifold gasket be the problem? Any help.
I have a 2005 f150 5.4 3v...Accelerates and goes through the gear just fine as long as you don't press the accerator all the way down. It seems the as long as you keep the pedal about one inch from the floor board its normal but once you pass that inch, it will bog down at any rpm...Any ideas...Already changed the mass air throttle, fuel pump, injectors, fuel filter, Oxigen sensors...Thanks for any input...there is no codes.
Mine was a easy fix. Replaced IAC ran good then started doing same thing next day. Thinking fuel pump pump relay filters vacume leaks air filters? After thinking the worst realized my battery cables weren't even tight. That's all it was.
On my 2006 Lariat I’m the only owner. At 103,000 miles she wouldn’t want to move, had zero power and made a clicking from engine when I tried to hover her gas…. I replaced all spark plugs and wires, & the Catalytic converters were completely shot, so I replaced both and the mass air flow sensor we replaced but it ran crappy with new one so we put old sensor back in and she runs like brand new!!!
Truck won't start won't roll over no power to windows, door locks, radio won't come on no light to radio or a/c control panel changed ignition solenoid still no crank
Catalytic converters were completely shot, so I replaced both and the mass air flow sensor we replaced but it ran crappy with new one so we put old sensor back in and she runs like brand new!!!
Same problem. Replaced starter, starter relay, fuses, and new battery. All grounds good. Turn key just a thump from the new starter relay. Thats it... Help please somebody...
Pull #1 spark plug and see if antifreeze on spark plug. If its is your motor is hydro lock. Meaning too much water/ antifreeze has gotten passed cylinder head and wall its causing a vaporlock and the piston and crank can't move because of the vapor lock pressure. Take all plugs out and turn engine manual by hand to force out all the water/antifreeze to unlock engine. Hope it help. It help me.
No crank no start
Replaced battery and starter
Starter relay fuse is good
But starter relay port is only reading 2.5v instead of 11.5v like the battery
Changed out the battery, alternator, starter, 2 relays and still not starting. It sounds like it wants to Crank I hear the fuel pump. I'm lost! I can turn the crank shaft by hand. Help me please somebody! 01 ford f150 4.6
When I put the key in my truck wants to start she sounds like she's going to start but she doesn't get like the spark to start I guess is what's missing motor starts or the ignition starts but the motor won't start
First check fuses to see if any ignition fuses blown. And then check neutral safety switch. It can be bad and sending a bad signal to ECM there is a problem. Sometimes those switches go out and u think your motor locking up or your losing battery and starter power
Already went through all of the fuses the battery is a brand new battery and my starter is fine because it turns over it just won't start so I bought a gas sending sensor and I'm going to apply that today and I also have a crankshaft sensor that I'm supposed to be picking up today it's very frustrating because if I'm not working I'm not making money and I just feel screwed I know feelings have nothing to do with your car running although it really does suck when you're living on the skin of your teeth. And I truly have a hard time asking for help. And of course it was my birthday yesterday and I didn't plan on working on my truck but I did I need to turn this s*** around
To one and all i had the same problem take a screw driver cross the small and big wire and see if it turns over if it. Does its a short in ur column if not then u have diffrent problem
2012 Ford f150 EcoBoost first dead battery light come on replace battery and now truck will not start cranks but no start acts like it's not getting fuel but I hear the fuel pump coming on
Unless I tilt my steering wheel down to the lowest position my truck will not start. I turn the key all gauges light up as normal, it will not crank. I lower the the steering wheel and it starts, no problem
Sounds like an issue with your shifter. Is it wobbly/loose? There are two torx head bolts that hold it on the column, and if those are loose you can experience the symptoms you have right now.
Check the plugs on the alternator. I had a clip broke on mine and i thought i had it in there good but i ended up having to just order one on ebay for like 3 bucks and splice it in and i no longer have any issues, mine ended up over charging batteries and over charging smelt like rotten eggs. But those plugs get brittle and also a little before that issue i had a small oil leak from the valve cover gasket failing and over a period of time it was every where under the truck and finally it clogged up my starter and the wiring harness was just covered. And so i replaced wiring harness and starter. Good to go. Idk if that will help.
My son has a 1989 ford f150. He ran out of gas, put gas in it, sprayed started fluid, changed the fuel filter, checked the air filter, and reconnected the battery. It tries to start, but won't catch. We don't really know much else to do, any suggestions for a newbee diy'er? :)
First, make sure you have enough gas in the tank. Then, turn the key for 2 seconds, and let it rest for a couple of seconds. Do this again a few times: the goal is to fill the gas system. Pay attention to see if you can notice whether the fuel pump is working or not, it might have broken. Good luck, let me know how it goes!
2010 F150 4x4 supercab will not start. No lights or power to instrument cluster. Replaced cluster now have power to cluster but engine will not crank. 4.6 24 valve
Next to the fuse box there is a button with a red cap push the cap down it's the out fuel cut off switch it might have tripped to retripp ot just push the button down
My daughter was driving the truck she thought that it needed or because the oil pressure gauge was reading low. She then added too much oil without knowing it. As she was driving, the truck just shut off and now will not start back. They have already drained some oil and checked all the spark plugs, and they all seem to be clean and not oily. Now it seems when you’re starting the truck. It is turning over but it’s not getting fuel. What can we try?
Try cleaning the air intake system most likely got sucked into that area. Disconnect air intake and check for fresh oil residue. Will need a special tool to clean properly and flush out any oil that may have gotten sucked in.
Me too. Have all power, new starter, ign switch, key cylinder, but dash lights flicker when I wiggle the key but replaced cylinder and still no start. Clicking in passenger side fuse box but no bad fuses I'm so burned out over this damn truck
@Lost mechanikInstrument cluster will cause all those problems and more. Cluster will cause window issues, interior lights to turn on randomly, parasitic draw etc.
Truck won't start fuel pump relay and fuses are ok and also checked for fuel pressure didn't have any pressure out of shrader valve and i also checked to hear if the pump was turning on at the fiiller but I didn't hear it come on also have the theft like blinking could there be short in the wiring to cause the pump not to turn on or is the theft light causing these problems need some advice or answers.
Check your fuel pump driver module...usually located on the frame above the spare tire. Aluminum bolted to steal and we'll the rest is self explanatory. That's what mine looked like when I pulled it off my 2008 f150 XLT 5.4L. Replaced it and I'm back in business...Good luck
The starters are bad on those trucks, in the winter the starter gets moisture in it and it freezes. If you want to get it going heat up the starter with a lighter or acetylene torch. But change the starter.
There are a few possible reasons why your Ford F-150 might not start even though you have power to everything. Here are a few things you could try:
Check the battery connections and cables to make sure they are clean and tightened properly. Corroded or loose connections can prevent the starter from turning over.
Check the starter and starter relay. If the starter or starter relay is faulty, it could prevent the engine from starting.
Check the fuel pump and fuel filter. If the fuel pump isn't functioning properly or the fuel filter is clogged, the engine won't receive enough fuel to start.
Check the spark plugs and spark plug wires. If the spark plugs are fouled or the spark plug wires are damaged, it could prevent the engine from starting.
Check the ignition switch. If the ignition switch is faulty, it could prevent the engine from starting.
If u have power to all power source and u turn ignition key and u just got a thump sound but not engine cranking over first check ignition regulator to see its getting fire next check ignition fuse see if its blown. If all check out check ground and positive to battery and starter. Could be loose or corroide. Last pull #1 spark plug to see if antifreeze and water are on plug. If it is remove all plugs and try cranking to push out the antifreeze that's has hydrolock the pistons to keep them from moving. Or take a heavy breaker bar and socket and turned it manual from the harmonica balancer clockwise to relieve hydrolock pressure from antifreeze filling up the pistons
My truck was running ,while it was running I attempted to plug un a scan tool when I did the truck made a ding noise and I killed my truck attempted to start it again and nothing happened no click from the starter or anything I changed the ignition switch, the clutch safety switch still nothing ,I checked the starter solenoid and it works properly what is my problem
Would not start single Click, everything else was good, turned out I just had to punish together the key on the front end for the BCM to recognise my key
Check fuse 27 under the hood and see what it looks like… ughh just had this same problem the past two months with my 2012 F150 and wasted stupid crazy money on fuel pump, fuel filter, and the relay, etc. and found this video on YouTube and it was the stupidest, easiest, less than 3$ fix of the fuel pump fuse under the hood in the box it’s fuse spot number 27 and it’s a yellow 20 amp fuse. If you pull it out and it looks anything like in this video than that’s what it is… unfortunately in his case he got a cheap fuse spot changer kit and relocate that fuse but luckily in my case my fuse space wasn’t compromised just fuse was melted and a little around the upper part of the fuse site 27.
Sounds like your starter motor is stuck or has completely failed try putting the vehicle into gear and rocking it back and forward then try again if this fails I’d replace the starter motor hope this helps.
Im having same problem. I put it in gear and rocked back and forth it worked! The next time I tried to crack same thing won't start. Is it the starter relay?
I turn the ignition switch and everything on the dash, door chime, lights, radio comes on but it just won't Even try to start. Machine says it's not communicating with truck. A big car with a huge lock keeps blinking on the dash. Usually it's a small lock blinks to show the alarm is on but this one is very different. Someone plz help. Last thing that was replaced was the transmission bulk head connector and transmission oil pan gasket where replaced. Tried turning on the truck and wouldn't start anyone. Like I said I really need help.
@DozaHonestly I don't know which one exactly I just got a fuse tester and checked all the little fuses under the hood. I believe it was a yellow #20. Hopefully that helps. Let me know.
Started in cooler weather late year not starting in the morning but not every cold morning go later in the day crank up run fine this summer no problems started getting cold wouldn’t crank, crank one cool morning drove it 25 miles hasn’t started since all fuses good relays are good has no engine codes popping up
So, my pickup got drilled! Gas was taken then it sat for a while. I filled the hole and put new fuel in. Now the truck won't start. Checked fuses, listened for pump and checked modules. Cant figure it out!
Was pulling up to house and went past driveway and was going to back up but the truck died and I have not been able to get started since ! What can it be ? 1990 F-150 with a 5.0 Motor
Ya same here with my old torrent. Had it parked at an angle, was running low on gas - shut off my vehicle and then it wouldnt start up again... brother said it could be my starter
The first time the truck would just die on me. A jump would fix it. Then it happened again autozone said it was a battery. Put a new battery in. Died again. This time the dashboard went crazy. Autozone said alternator bought a new one. 3 days later does it again but would not hold a charge. Unhooked radio truck ran for 3 or4 days I turned the heater on and the dashboard went crazy, truck died. Held a charge about for about 300ft and died. We put it on a charger all night long. Will not start butbmakes a tic ticing noise for about 10sec stops and starts again. Please help. Checked the fuses.
A bad or poor connection on or more of the 3 wires and plugs on the alternator. Check the smallest one if the grab clip is broke it will cause all kinds of issues even though it seems like it’s holding in therr ok it’s not
Could the manifold gasket be the problem? Any help.
