Engine won't start

Hyundai Elantra 2013 2.0L limited 75498 miles
Wife and I were out shopping today, Stopped at the market to pick up groceries. Headlights and radio work fine, but engine would not turn over. Got a jump start from Hyundai roadside assistance(good service) and drove the car for about 30 minutes to recharge the battery. Arrived at home, turned off the ignition. Tried to restart the car, but the engine wouldn't turn over. Headlights, radio, pwr windows, seats, etc, all work fine. Checked alternator belt tension, and it seemed to be ok. Didn't pull battery to have it checked. Any suggestions?

My wife has a 2015 elantra and am having the same issue, less than 17000 miles...did you ever find out what was the issue?

If the battery is under a certain charge then a jump will work and the lights will work but it won't be able to recharge from the altenator .take it to a shop like Canadian tire or "the us equivalent " and get then to check it. Usually done free

I notice the same has been happening with my 2014 Elantra GL. Did you ever find out what was causing this?

Reading online feels a lot like Neutral Safety Switch / Inhibitor Switch as someone else also pointed out.

I'd say get a voltmeter tested alternator output it should be 14 volts without the lights on down to 12 if they are. If the lternator is putting out the voltage is necessary check yor contacts of your battery post see if they're corroded they may look clean on top but underneath they still may not be making contact

I just wrote a big long comment explaining what it could be & the issues I had... I can see this post is a couple of years old... but it might hopefully help anyone else out 👍🏼😊

The inhibitor switch needs replacing!

I’m in Brisbane, Australia & had the same issues! So frustrating!
Every time I was in a rush to be somewhere!

1st time, I had the battery replaced. 2 weeks later my car wouldn’t start every second day, then weeks later- 4 times in 1 day!

Most times it would start after 8 tries - but the last time - it wouldn’t start after 25 goes! 😤

Had to walk all my groceries home, then walk back before my car got towed!

Roadside assistance tried to start charging me $85 callout free + tow fee, then the service centre wanted to charge me $160 to tell me what’s wrong with it!
Even though i have gold cover warranty!
I told them all where to go!

So after several hours of online research MYSELF... (& I know NOTHING about cars!)
I came to the conclusion that it was the Inhibitor switch!

At my next service I asked them to check what the problem is (after complaining to the Car Dealership Manager), they checked for free, however couldn’t find any faults / issues! 🙄

The Manager told the service guys to order in the part & change it anyway (due to my persistence) and guess what????
No issues since!! 😱🥳

The new Inhibitor Switch part is a slightly different shape from the original.
So if your car isn’t under warranty anymore, contact Hyundai & they should supply the part for Free!
Otherwise it’s only a $20 part & takes 10 mins to change over. There is 1 good YouTube video of a guy showing it.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, it had only done 23,000 klm’s. I’m female & the roadside assist guy kept trying to tell me it’s definitely something more serious like the starter motor etc 🙄
I told him there’s no way it could be that!
Anyways, hope this helps a few more annoyed & frustrated people out there! 👍🏼😊

Of a 2002 Chevy Cavalier LS 2.2 L and it's and a number four in the van as a but I can start it by jumping pins 87 and 30 with the crank relay the 10 amp fuse ignition fuse was blown I replaced that didn't help the cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing and the dome light keeps coming on when I'm stopping so certainly something electrical is going on I did just replace the ECU I went through the steps to get the Anti-Theft off and it starts so that can be the problem I just have to jump the pins any help would be greatly appreciated... Also like the top two rows of fuses inside the car the panel or not showing voltage but are not blown either so I have that going on too so I guess that's the power side not the control side I don't know I'm just starting to learn a lot about this as I'm trying to fix it but I still have no success after 2 months of trying

Starting problem.

Hyundai Elantra 2006 2.? 249000 miles
Battery light came on, went off parked it. Get in the next day and radio wasn't working. Drove it, got out went to leave, radio worked, low beams went out. Went to troubleshoot the low beams, heard a hissing from the battery, put new one in, didn't start, had the alternator checked, bad, so replaced it, still no start. Took the starter in to get checked. It passed. So I waa thinking it's a loose wire or a bad ground or something. Or the ecu. Took the ecu out and it looked good, (no obvious burn marks. Haven't found any loose connections or bad grounds. Not sure what to do next, I wanna try everything before I send in the ecu, it's expensive. I'd hate to send it in and pay, and there not be anything wrong with it. Any ideas moving forward??

I changed out the relays and it started. There is a drain on the battery somewhere I think

If you keep having the problem, I'd get yourself a cheap multimeter and do a parasitic draw test. I had several issues starting my car and got halfway through the fusebox with a multimeter before I realized I left my wireless OBD2 reader in like an idiot, and it was sucking power.

If you changed your lights then there is a short. Maybe the bulb isn't in all the way and there is a ark that blows the fuse. Check the lights and work your way back to the fuse box

I’d start by checking the third brake light (upper brake light) bulb/LED and its wiring. If the light still works but the warning appears, there may be a connection issue or the car’s system may need a reset. https://amongusonline.io

Basic headlights no fx, Brights ½ fx

Hyundai Elantra 2005 Automatic  145000 miles
Okay so imported from US to Canada and safetied in Saskatchewan made it so I NEEDED to get daytime running lights. Aftermarket so I don't know if that's part of the issue.

Checked bulbs, fuses, wires.

I'm being directed from family to replace the steering column switch as it might be broken, but Brights function and I think it's on the same circuit.

Seems like waste of a couple hundred CAD.

Thoughts?

Turn Signal/License Plate

Hyundai Elantra 2011 Sedan 152000 miles
The turn signal light on the driver side is not working, neither is the sidelight (same bulb). Bulb has been replaced. The driver side or left license plate light will not work either; light bulb has been replaced.

Also, is there a way we can disable the fog light on the taillight? It’s only illuminated on the right side (passenger) side, but my son keeps getting pulled over because the cops think his taillight is out since it isn’t illuminated on the driver side. He doesn’t have a fog light dial to turn it off and on, so it just stays on.

Thanks,
Carrie

Electrical Issues

Hyundai Elantra 2013  180000 miles
For years I've had issues with different light bulbs blowing. Never the same one. Could be headlights but it's mostly brake lights, turn signal lights etc. Also, I've replaced TWO crank shaft sensors and I think I'm heading towards #3. What is going on? Obviously there is an electrical problem but what could it be? I never see power surges such as headlights getting brighter, etc.
