No. Sometimes an alternator can die. Just how it is. Replace it.

Not starting - Only crank SolvedSolved

Volkswagen Polo 2008 hatchback - 1.4 90 miles
I have a very elusive issue with my car which I just can't seem to diagnose. :( My Polo 9n3 2008 1.4 randomly doesn't want to start anymore. When I turn the key the engine simply turns over and there is no click or buzzing noise from the fuel pump. The dash electronics function perfectly. I have removed the fuel pump and tested it, it works perfectly, however the cable powering it only measures 3.5v. The car battery measures 12v. I checked the spark plugs and they are dry- so the engine is not flooded. On suspicion that it is the immobiliser, I checked my key fob battery and it is good. I ha… Read complete

Andre from South Africa a year ago
Hi all, I managed to solve the issue. It turns out the ECU was faulty and needed replacement due to the fact that the previous owner had replaced the original ECU which was not fully functional and therefore had to bypass the immobiliser to make it work. The bypassed issues in the ECU were then aggravated over time with exposure to heat and vibration and ultimately resulted in the need for complete replacement.

Car not starting

Volkswagen Polo 2006 manual 263000 miles
Hi i have a Polo tdi 1.9 2006 model.
The car is not cranking or starting so i thought it was the alternator or starter or battery to i replaced all brand new but stil it wont start. When i turn the ignition key the lights on the dash comes on but when i turn it to start then it doesnt even crank but i do hear a faint clicking sound so not sure what might be the problem. Im not sure if its the relay fuse or what it might be

Use process of elimination. Keep meter connected & pull fuses one by one when reading is 0A you found the faulty circuit
