When and how to change before it breaks

Well it was a hot day I had already changed radiator cap hose n it was good then it was hot out side I was late n I was heavy on the gas trying to get to appt well car got hot it cooled n after that it wouldn’t run rite idled hard got hot so I was told it was water pump we changed that n we noticed timing belt was roping so we replaced that now it idles ruff it stalls we put in gear must us both feet it’s making a grinding metal sound by belt that was changed n water pump it’s sparks same spot of grinding not a lot but enough to se here n there n lil metal dust partials by where it grinds it g… Read complete

It starts runs real ruff won’t stay started if put in gear or come to stop it makes metal grinding sound n u can see lil metal dust around where it sparks by the belt n as it warns it harder to start it’s got lots of power once u get past just the first part of take off

TDC marks are correct to cam and crank and personal marks are good... put everything back together... Car starts and idles fairly smoothly... Car dies immediately when trying to accelerate

Hi, my engine management light comes on whilst driving maybe once a week. Then goes off after I restart car. I have had the camshaft sensor replaced as this is what the fault code was signalling. However, the light still comes on but not so often as before. I have had many different diagnosis from garages /mechanics (without seeing the car). I have been advised to get the serpentine belt changed, timing chain slipping, wiring fault or sensor is misplaced. Can anyone shed any light without me having to spend a fortune please? It is a vvt-i petrol engine. Thank you

Drove my 96 Corolla that night the next morning I went out to leave and it will not start I've changed the coil checked the timing belt it's getting fuel idk what else to check please help it's my only car no money for a garage

Hi, I have a Toyota corolla 1.8 AE102 1996 I fitted a new timing belt and tensioner as well as the water pump, now when I start and drive I get a whine from the belt as if it is too tight but the tensioner is pre set with a spring load tho I did rotate the engine and loosened and retightened the tensioner. Can I loosen the tensioner in place and tighten it again to give it some slack? When I feel the belt it does feel good and secure as I used gates belt and tensioners the noise is slight whine tho it's driving me crazy as I'm doing a long distance trip next week.
