Failure in third cylinder SolvedSolved

Nissan Altima 2005  110000 miles
I have a 2005 Nissan Altima that I bought two years ago with 9600 miles. It always vibrated when I'm stopped in drive. My latest problem is that the check engine warning light came on and I get a failure in the third cylinder. Added to this, when I'm starting it it fails for a while but then it starts.

I had the same problem, it vibrated in Drive but it was fine in neutral, and the problem was the coil. Check your coils, maybe you get the same result
Ivan from United States 11 years ago
Thanks a lot. I bought the ignition coil, and after they changed it, on the second day the warning light came on again, and I said it was the fourth spark plug. It's weird because the one before seemed fine, but I decided to change it and the check engine light went away. The vibrations are still there, but its something at least. Thanks for your time!

Engine cranks but won't start

Nissan Altima 1997  158000 miles
It all started when my wife left the lights on and the battery died. When we tried to jump start the car, it took a long time until it finally started and after a few minutes I went dead again. When the mechanic looked at the car, he realized the battery had problems, so we replaced it for a new one. Even then, the car kept refusing to start. Fuel pump is ok, there are no warning lights, we have no idea what could be the problem. Help!

Nissan has sent out a letter in the last couple of months (late 2022) regarding the inspection or check of the rear oxygen sensor voltage that can be performed at the dealer. Check if this helps

Why don't you just run a wire and switch to your starter? An just jump the starter? I know it's not the best

My car hesitates or stumbles

Nissan Altima 2003  288000 miles
I have a problem with my car, 3 months ago the engine started with a hesitation or stumble when reaching 2000 rpm. First, my husband did the tune up (the only thing he didn't do was changing the fuel filter, as in Autozone he was told that it was only sold together the fuel pump). We then took it to the mechanic and he changed the crankshaft sensor. Also, the check engine light was on. The mechanic says it is the timing belt, but we don't know if we should try to fix or get a new engine. A couple of weeks ago we were driving in an uphill road and the hesitation started again, do you think is's… Read complete

My car had problems similar to yours, but I didn't get so many errors, only P1101 I think it was. It had to do with the maf sensor (mass flow sensor) which I changed and solved the problem. The issue I had was that I could not push my engine beyond 2300 rpm before It chokes. It is possible that the new crankshaft sensor they used on your car was not original (as they are much more expensive), and those don't usually last long as they have poor quality. Even then, I don't think the sensor was causing your original problem. I would advice you to take it to a Nissan diagnostic specialist so they can tell you exactly what is wrong with your Altima. I've had this car for 2 years and this is the only problem I've ever had.
Sofiane from United States 2 years ago
Try throttle fuse or etca fuse. It happened to camry. Changed the fuse and car fixed. And this after I had changed the throttle body which I thought was the issue
Naz from United States 11 years ago
Thanks and good for you, we still have our car stopped. Right now it is at our third mechanic, as the first one said it was an electric problem but it wasn't, another one made us buy some parts that did not fix the problem (and then wanted us to change the computer, which is really expensive and it is not under warranty) and now we are with another Nissan specialist someone recommended us that thinks the problem is in the cylinder head. I hope we can finally fix this!!
Bud34 from United States 11 years ago
Hi, the most common cause for stallings and jerks are the crankshaft and camshfats sensors, they are sold together originals.
Obed from United States 11 years ago
I'm sure the problem is the MAF sensor, which measures the mass of air flow and sits after the air filter.

I have a Nissan Sylphy 2013, loss of power when accelerating and have to pump the gas peddle before it picks. What do u recommend I do
frankie from United States 11 years ago
I had the same problem twice with my 2003 Altima 2.5. When I tried to accelerate rpms did not go beyond 1500rpm, as if it choked. The first time it was due to the MAF sensor and the second time was 7 months after that. At the beginning I thought It was the same sensor again, so I even bought a new one, but it turned out to be a different new problem. I first took it to a couple of a mechanics that did not agree on the problem, and then finally to the Nissan specialist who by only hearing the noise could identify the problem: the catalytic converter was clogged. He removed it, and problem gone. He said I could put a new one, but It was too expensive, so que replaced it with a straight pipe.
Gail-Maryland from United States 11 years ago
Hi, Did you figure out problem with your Altima? I'm having same, with my 2000, with only 90K Mikes on it?
Charles from Canada 10 years ago
There was a Nissan recall announced July 7,2006, (see "carcomplaints.com"). I have the stalling problem and noticed the recall. I called Nissan Canada and the recall is still accepted. I have just booked the recall repair. I have already had the cam shaft sensor replaced very recently. Hopefully, this Works. Here is the car complaints information --- "Summary: On certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine, the crank angle sensor is affected by temperature variations. Under certain driving conditions, these variations in temperature can be large enough to cause a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. Consequences: If the interruption in the signal from the sensor is so brief that the eletronic conrol module (ECM) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed increasing the risk of a crash. Action: Dealer will reprogram the ECM free of charge. Overall, a poor vehicle that can bleed you dry while safety is significantly compromised. This recall repair will be the last money spent on this vehicle. If it stalls again, it's gone.

2016 Altima Won't Accelerate

Nissan Altima 2016 2.5 90000 miles
I am the original owner of a 2016 Nissan Altima with 90,000 miles. In the last year, when driving the vehicle on warm days, or for very long distances, the vehicle will suddenly no longer accelerate when coming to a stop. Pushing the accelerator pedal does absolutely nothing. The RPMs stay the same. They do not go up or down. No check engine light comes on. The pedal can be pushed to the floor and the car will not go. After 10 to 15 seconds, then the car will suddenly lurch forward and the RPMs will increase dramatically, but the transmission will not shift down. I am only able to drive 25mph… Read complete

If not that get the fuel pump pressure tested. Usually worse going up hill tell tale sign. Loses proper pressure. I got an o e m one junk yard $100
Night chaser from United States 2 years ago
Nope. Not hill related. Had both brake switches replaced and the O2 sensor too. Any possibility it could be the Throttle Body sticking, or the cable from the throttle body to the accelerator pedal?
4MyAltima from United States 2 years ago
Look at the transmission recall. There was an extension I believe on an adjustment. I never got it done. On occasion usually going up hill or sitting at a light in Boston forever it would drive only in limp mode. I'd shut down start up. Your situation seems like the fuel loses pressure or something get clogged because generally the computer will try compensate. You didn't mention any codes.
Night chaser from United States 2 years ago
@4MyAltimaNo codes are thrown. I've had a repair shop check.
Adam from United States a month ago
@Night chaserHi all, I have been going through this issue for a while now and trying to put all the pieces together after reading all the problems others are having. I did have a light bulb moment and trying to experiment to see if the issue resolves. How many of you have changed your brake bulbs to an led bulb? I did this to mine and think this could be the issue. During the day, the car warms up inside and supposedly there could be ghost surges or something to the effect with and led bulb (due to the low wattage) that the car still thinks the brake is pressed, until the surge generates enough to show the switch is off before letting the gas pedal trigger. This never happens to me during the morning or when the car is cooler. I have changed the bulbs back to the regular ones to see if the issue resolves. I will reply back if so.
Night chaser from United States a month ago
Unfortunately I traded the vehicle a couple of years ago with no resolution. My life wasn't worth the risk despite asking Nissan for help for the life and death situation countless times.
Adam from United States a month ago
Thanks for the response. Agreed. Just curious for my sanity, do you remember if you might have added led brake bulbs to the car?
Night chaser from United States a month ago

In my case a faulty break switch was causing this problem. A way to confirm if this is the problem, is by pressing the brake and checking for the brake lights, if they don't turn on, then pretty sure you have a faulty switch. The switch is pretty easy to fix, check http://importnut.net/push-button-start… for DIY instructions!

Dashboard indicators

Nissan Altima 2003  180000 miles
Suddenly after 3 hours driving my vehicle, the battery's and handbrake's indicator turned on in the dashboard. It did not stall, overheat or fail in any way, but they remained on for 10-15 minutes and then went away, appearing back after a considerable distance. This event takes place sporadically so I would like to know what should I check: alternator, fuses, dashboard, computer...? Any help would be appreciated.

Nisson had our car for four days and still could not find a permanent cure. It is a very dangerous situation. We can be driving along the highway and without warning the car looses power. We have to turn the engine of and start it again. Sometimes it will start again but more than often it will take several tries before it will respond. Is it possible to get Nisson to respond to a request to have a company opinion.
