Engine keeps getting hot and has a rough idle

Toyota Solara 2004 Convertible/3.3L 290000 miles
When I crank the car up and let it idle, it eventually starts to speed up like the car is getting hot. I have radiator fans rigged so they come on automatic when I crank it up. I just changed the electric fan switch a few days ago. What could be the problem?
