Handbrake light stays om

Mini Cooper 2009 hatchback 65000 miles
The handbrake light for my car will remain on, even whilst handbrake is fully down. I have no clue what is causing it.

Brake lights on with regular lights

Mini Cooper 2013  135000 miles
2013 Paceman. When the regular lights are on, the brake lights also turn on. However, when you press the brake, the brake lights seem to dim instead of getting brighter. Is this normal? When the regular lights are off, the brake lights work correctly.

P2138 error code SolvedSolved

Mini Cooper 2011 Base hatchback 130000 miles
I have a 2138 error code which indicates throttle pedal. After 3 weeks of troubleshooting, it turned out tobe the brake light switch. While 2138 puts the car in limp mode, disconnecting the BLS and clearing the code, takes the car out of limp mode. Reconnect the switch and the error reappear when you press the brake pedal. While you have no limp mode, you also don't have brake lights. Tried an aftermarket switch which lasted 3 days. Dealer wanted $98 for genuine part, AutohausAZ charged $45+8 for shipping.

New Genuine part solved the issue, for now

Update: the new switch did not help. Found out a bad relay in the DME. $2000 repair. Bypassing the brake switch with a generic push switch, relay and resistor ( to trick the DME from throwing codes). Pull the original switch, covered with foil and E tape. DME will never see it. Clear code. Limp mode gone. Saved a ton.

I've had to disconnect the battery for a week. Once connected, it returned to normal. Make sure the battery is newer and connected correctly.
