Thump sounds during first few turns of a drive

Ford Edge 2019 ST 48000 miles

The ST has stiff suspension, but the sound is deeper in tone than the normal spring sound. Might have one or two thumps during a turn. Can't isolate the origin to either side, so I'm concerned it might be a rear end problem or differential. I am a novice at this stuff.

Since you are saying that this is happening during a turn, try the following...

If you have the ability, put your car on jack stands where you have enough room to spin your front wheels. Then turn your wheels in either direction as far as you can and inspect your half shafts. After the following inspection, turn the wheels in the opposite direction and repeat the inspection.
You are checking for damage to the rubber boots, and grease/oil leaking, grasp the bar and give it a firm shake. It there is any play, then your shafts are starting to fail and you should look in to replacing them. This is not an easy job because they have wheel bearings and that requires a few extra steps... but so you at least you have an idea of what you are looking at, I will include a picture.

Thanks, Heist. The noise is occuring with every turn now, so something is definitely failing. If it is the shafts failing, at least I will be prepared to hear the repair estimate. I'll get it up on stands today.

I have a similar issue, I have replaced the struts twice, replaced lower control arms, stabilizer links twice (was told they were spinning), ball joint, everything is new. I have replaced everything on the front end and still can't find the noise that sounds like a strut. It's driving me crazy. Could it possibly be the frame? That's my last guess.

My best suggestion with everything being brand new, have they done a proper alignment? If yes, then look at your tires camber and toe, from a good distance away (15 to 20 feet) from the front and rear of your vehicle, they should be straight up and down or at the top to slightly lean away from your vehicle. (A positive camber is ok if you put a lot of weight into your car the tires will straighten up. )

I will include an image, if your vehicle has any of the red marked out ones, then your tires could be rubbing when you make a turn.

Once you have inspected everything keep note of any damage or shiny areas and make sure everything is safe prior to driving.
Next is for you to find a deserted lot or area that you can drive in and just make the noise happen. After a while (when you can consistently make the noise) park and then inspect everything, you are looking for anything shiny, wear and or rub marks anything different. That will be where your issue it.
