Fuel gauge in cluster stopped working so I bought a digital fuel gauge

The digital fuel gauge i bought is not working properly I ran the + to the battery and - to the body and the gauge wire to the purple wire on the fuel pump on the tank. I have a full tank and it's reading 8%to13% not reading 100% for full tank what an I doing wrong

check ground, or you might have to put a inline fuse and might have the wrong wire to pump

I checked all the wiring and wiring diagrams for my truck and at the tank it’s the purple wire that goes into the fuel pump that’s the sending unit and still nothing I have a full tank and it still shows less than a quarter what else do you think it is I just put a new pump and sending unit in and still have the same problem

maybe a bad ground or somewhere in a wiring harness there is a wire loose or cut.

Yeah because I was thinking about that so I checked to see if I had a broken line and all goo there’s I believe 3 wires go into the harness of the fuel pump and it checks out all good but not working properly

maybe a faulty product. can happen. i do believe it’s in that wiring.

That's what I was thinking so I went ahead and got another one so I'll try it out tomorrow morning and then y'all know on here how it goes thanks for the update

The 2006 models fuel level signal comes from the Body Control Module through the Class 2 data line, not just a 12V power source and the old style potentiometer resistance values. The signal being created works fine when being interpreted by the BCM, probably not so much with an aftermarket gauge receiving an incompatible signal. The same with the oil pressure, has an equation it uses to calculate the value you see on the dash based off of (Voltage*32)-16. May need to find a dedicated aftermarket supplier for that year truck or repair the original.
