My fan turns on my coolant isn't leaking but it's overheating how can I tell if my waterpump is working

Over heating looked up code said signal not getting sent to front for coolant pump??? It’s my first bmw and hooking up subs and amp I unhooked the battery and since hooking battery back up check engine light and overheating going into limp mode please help
