Inside of it flows the hot refrigerant. Its purpose is to allow the air at room temperature between the fins to cool the refrigerant. It has 2 thick hoses, one in the opening (upper part) and another in the exit (lower part).
Same thing happened to my car. My husband replaced the thermostat and it worked fine for about a year. Just recently I've began experiencing the same issue again. I have to disconnect /reconnect he battery in the trunk to get the fan to shut off and the dash reading to work again. Once this starts, it will just randomly do this and every time I have to disconnect & reconnect the battery until my husband can change the thermostat again. I think the 1st thermostat was an aftermarket one so that's probably why it quit working after a year. He said it's a pain in the butt to change out so hopefully he goes with an oem one this time.
Takes about 2 or 3 minutes to find and clear tye error.
