Once a year, with high temperatures, my cruise control drops oil, and it will not allow to reset, and engine oil temperature reading fluctues. Stopping the car and letting it cool resolves the issue. Any idea on where to start the troubleshooting ?

Sporadically, with high air temperatures, my cruise control drops off while driving on motoway, it will not allow to reset, at the same time, engine oil temperature reading fluctues on the dash cluster. Stopping the car and letting it cool for few hours resolves the issue. Any idea on where to start the troubleshooting ?
