Mechanic was suggesting changing out the full steering rack and it's electric control units.

I have a very heavy steering wheel myself. I had once lost my main pulley when the rubber ripped, could barely turn my wheel. Yes youre right its the whole rack and units.
Especialy if it “became” stiff then yes.

Thankyou for your feedback and suggestions. My challenge is that the mechanic is asking for 6k pounds for this unit from BMW and does not want to go for used one. 6k is amount the value of the entire car
