Engine won't start

Hyundai Elantra 2013 2.0L limited 75498 miles
Wife and I were out shopping today, Stopped at the market to pick up groceries. Headlights and radio work fine, but engine would not turn over. Got a jump start from Hyundai roadside assistance(good service) and drove the car for about 30 minutes to recharge the battery. Arrived at home, turned off the ignition. Tried to restart the car, but the engine wouldn't turn over. Headlights, radio, pwr windows, seats, etc, all work fine. Checked alternator belt tension, and it seemed to be ok. Didn't pull battery to have it checked. Any suggestions?

My wife has a 2015 elantra and am having the same issue, less than 17000 miles...did you ever find out what was the issue?

If the battery is under a certain charge then a jump will work and the lights will work but it won't be able to recharge from the altenator .take it to a shop like Canadian tire or "the us equivalent " and get then to check it. Usually done free

I notice the same has been happening with my 2014 Elantra GL. Did you ever find out what was causing this?

Reading online feels a lot like Neutral Safety Switch / Inhibitor Switch as someone else also pointed out.

I'd say get a voltmeter tested alternator output it should be 14 volts without the lights on down to 12 if they are. If the lternator is putting out the voltage is necessary check yor contacts of your battery post see if they're corroded they may look clean on top but underneath they still may not be making contact

I just wrote a big long comment explaining what it could be & the issues I had... I can see this post is a couple of years old... but it might hopefully help anyone else out 👍🏼😊

The inhibitor switch needs replacing!

I’m in Brisbane, Australia & had the same issues! So frustrating!
Every time I was in a rush to be somewhere!

1st time, I had the battery replaced. 2 weeks later my car wouldn’t start every second day, then weeks later- 4 times in 1 day!

Most times it would start after 8 tries - but the last time - it wouldn’t start after 25 goes! 😤

Had to walk all my groceries home, then walk back before my car got towed!

Roadside assistance tried to start charging me $85 callout free + tow fee, then the service centre wanted to charge me $160 to tell me what’s wrong with it!
Even though i have gold cover warranty!
I told them all where to go!

So after several hours of online research MYSELF... (& I know NOTHING about cars!)
I came to the conclusion that it was the Inhibitor switch!

At my next service I asked them to check what the problem is (after complaining to the Car Dealership Manager), they checked for free, however couldn’t find any faults / issues! 🙄

The Manager told the service guys to order in the part & change it anyway (due to my persistence) and guess what????
No issues since!! 😱🥳

The new Inhibitor Switch part is a slightly different shape from the original.
So if your car isn’t under warranty anymore, contact Hyundai & they should supply the part for Free!
Otherwise it’s only a $20 part & takes 10 mins to change over. There is 1 good YouTube video of a guy showing it.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, it had only done 23,000 klm’s. I’m female & the roadside assist guy kept trying to tell me it’s definitely something more serious like the starter motor etc 🙄
I told him there’s no way it could be that!
Anyways, hope this helps a few more annoyed & frustrated people out there! 👍🏼😊

Of a 2002 Chevy Cavalier LS 2.2 L and it's and a number four in the van as a but I can start it by jumping pins 87 and 30 with the crank relay the 10 amp fuse ignition fuse was blown I replaced that didn't help the cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing and the dome light keeps coming on when I'm stopping so certainly something electrical is going on I did just replace the ECU I went through the steps to get the Anti-Theft off and it starts so that can be the problem I just have to jump the pins any help would be greatly appreciated... Also like the top two rows of fuses inside the car the panel or not showing voltage but are not blown either so I have that going on too so I guess that's the power side not the control side I don't know I'm just starting to learn a lot about this as I'm trying to fix it but I still have no success after 2 months of trying

Electrical issue

Hyundai Elantra 2012 automatic 185000 miles
My low tire light will come on (no low tires), my radio goes out, my clock goes out, locks on doors do not work, "trip" information will not work, dome light, etc. After days of not working, they will just all come back on. This time however, my low tire pressure light stayed on and the dome light won't work. Everything else came back on. Does anyone else have this issue? One person on a forum mentioned if LCM/JCB was getting wet and shorting out (on another person's car). I have no idea what this is.

I've had my sunroof not work for over 2 years, took it to 3 garages and all of them said the fuses were fine, the motor needed to be changed. Just yesterday I had my interioir lights go off so i decided to change the fuses myself. By luck I decided to look at the sunroof fuse, and it looked completely fine, nothing broken but I decided to change it anyway.

The sunroof worked. Point is, change the fuses regardless whether they look fine or not and it may solve your problem. My fuse looked completely okay
Without any break.
Edit: I own a 2015 Elantra

Rattling noise

My car is making this plastic rattling noise it makes the noise when I'm going at a low speed or if I'm going over a bumpy road. I can only hear it when the window is down I can't hear it when the window is up the car drives fine and there's no shaking to the steering wheel. Somebody suggested it could be my wheel bearings?

Starting and running heat

Hyundai Elantra 2015  125000 miles
I went to heat up the car this morning before leaving and I turned it on and then turned the heat on and hit the rear defrost button and the car started jerking and idling very very rough almost about to die. I pushed the gas pedal a lil bit and kept the rpms up to about 2000 and turned the heat off. It never died but we literally haven't had this car a month and financed it. And when this happen I smelled something that almost smelled like paint thinner but maybe it was gas but it was a very strong smell. Any thoughts on what to check first or has anyone else had this issue?

Fuel smell outside and inside car

Hyundai Elantra 2004 Gt 100000 miles
My elantra occasionally has a smell of fuel which is so strong you can smell it outside of the car. Once it's driven with windows down it is gone and can roll windows back up. I only. Smell it again once the car gas been sitting.
There are no visible leaks.

I realize I'm responding to an 8 year old question here, but for anyone else in this situation I would recommend checking if there's any residue under the vehicle if it has sat for a period of time. If yes, there's a strong chance it's from the fuel tank.

If no, check if there's any leak in the area while fueling up. My 2006 Elantra GT experienced a lot of wear and rust on the fuel filler neck specifically, and would leak whenever I put gas in my car. The GT body style has a special fuel filler neck part number and I was not able to locate a replacement part, so I wound up patching the hole with JB TankWeld. Not ideal, but it's limping me by while I find a better solution.

If you still don't see any leaking in either of those scenarios, my next step would be to replace the fuel filter. On this generation Elantra, I believe there's an access point under the back seat.

Key FOB, Clock, Radio, Door lock switch, Rear camera not working

Hyundai Elantra 2014 2.0L 300000 miles
So, it was happening few times in past. I was able to correct the issue by shutting off fuse box OFF -> unplug 2 wire connectors -> re plug it -> power ON the fuse box

But since last week,
That method didn't work.
I check the fuses while engine was running,
And 7 fuses are not responding.
By pulling out those fuses and checked the continuity test, all 7 fuses are ok.
No idea how to solve this issue.
