Check the EGR Valve, it could be stuck open. Did you have the Engine light ON?
If so, did you scan it for Codes?

I was traveling long distance. For the first 500km the car was fine. Thereafter it jerked in drive. Then it stalled. We called a towtruck and he took us to the nearest town. Next day we got a universal pump. Fitted it and the car started. We filled the tank and hit the road again. It went well for a few km then it had the jerk again. We stopped at the nearest town. And checked fuel. There was no fuel and we filled yhe car again. We figured that yhe syphine pump is not working. We then topped the car every few km.
We stopped at the garage switch the car off. The car wouldn't start again. We plugged the machine and got error codes can bus communication error code. We took of yhe battery terminals and reset it by putting the 2 cables together for a few seconds. The car started fine and we drove again. But ever since every now and then yhe car hesitate to start. But no error code is picking up.

Mine does the same. Key even gets stuck in ignition. Have had it into the shop several times. 3 new batteries in one year. Battery terminals cleaned, wiring replaced. Once in awhile, if you hit the battery terminal with something metal, you will hear a click and dashboard lights up and power returns. It will also release key. Right now nothing is working on it.

Car will not start

Chevrolet Captiva 2013 2.4 LT Automatic 30000 miles
8L of Diesel was added to the tank by mistake, car drove for a while then stalled. Tank was emptied and refuelled with petrol. Since then car won't start. Fuel pump working perfect, new spark plugs fitted but car just cranks, no start. Engine fault light not coming on to indicate fault. But when you plug Diagnosis machine ECU shows that all possible error messages. Changed ECU, initially no error was shown, after trying to start the car many times without success, new ECU also displayed same error messages as the old one. What can be wrong?

Not starting after new glow plugs

Chevrolet Captiva 2012 2.2 LTZ diesel manual 92000 miles
Had a glow plug fault code for plug 1 and 3. Changed to full new set, however, after putting all the things back. I think there is air trapped in the metal fuel pipes that come from the common rail to the injectors. The car turns but splutters and jolts. After trying to get it to fire for 10 minuites, the battery was flat. Now recharging to try again tomorrow. Any tips or ideas on what the issue is ?
Below are the pipes i think have the air trapped in.
And a picture of my engine overhead too.
When we tried to start it after new plugs after a few minuites a small amount of smoke started to come from the engine area.

Read a post somewhere where someone said they suspected a failing fuel pump and they advised that you remove the battery charge it untill fully charged and put it back in vehicle. VOILA the vehicle started on the first go and is operating fine as if nothing happened. So am planning on changing the fuel pump, filter and possibly the regulator as well.

Valves twisted SolvedSolved

Chevrolet Captiva 2009  85500 miles
Hello everyone. I own a Captiva and, due to a mineral oil shortage, the oil of my vehicle was changed. From that moment, it did not worked properly and it felt as if it were a cylinders failure. I changed the oil back to the synthetic one it had before, but the failure persisted. Since then, the car has not started working again; apparently, the engine got stuck but I cannot understand why. The compression has been checked, noticing that the front cylinders do not have any compression, and surprisingly these cylinders' valves have been twisted. When checking the camshaft's solenoids, we noticed that one of them is not working but it is not understood why this happened. I would appreciate any information you could give me.

If your valves are twisted it is due to the tappets, that work with an oil pressure. You did wrong to change to a mineral oil because its viscosity is higher, and the hydraulic tappets do not release such oil. It was useless to change the oil back because the damage to the valves was already made.

Trouble with battery terminal

Chevrolet Captiva 2014  78000 miles
I have been having issues lately with my car and the battery terminals. I try to start my car and it will click a few times, doesn't start, keys get locked, pop the hood, wiggle the positive terminal and my cars power starts working again. I've taken the battery out and gotten a new one as well since the battery was drained, cleaned the terminal cables and the posts. It works a few times and starts acting up again. Any clues as to what the heck is happening?

There are a few possible causes for the issue you are experiencing with your Chevrolet Captiva. One possibility is that there is a problem with the battery terminal connections, such as loose or corroded terminals. Another possibility is that there is an issue with the battery itself, such as a damaged cell or a failed charging system. It is also possible that there is a problem with the electrical system of the car, such as a short circuit or a malfunctioning component, that is causing the issue.
Marissa from United States 4 years ago
Thank you for writing back. I'm leaning towards loose or corroded terminals, which I hope is an easy, cheap fix. Really hoping it isn't an electrical issue, but that is also something to look into as well. Thanks again!
JB199115 from United States 3 years ago
Same issue here. Although anytime the A/C is running, the + battery cable gets extremely hot and the battery overheats, leading to the Captiva shutting off - in the middle of driving - or while parked.

No crank no start

Chevrolet Captiva 2010 2.4 auto  65000 miles
The car only displays park and reverse on the dash and wont start, I replaced the auto select switch and the BCM and its still the same. The gear lever goes into all positions but only displays P and R, you turn the key to crank the engine and all the dash lights go out and nothing not even a click.
