Overheating SolvedSolved

Volkswagen Amarok 2011  90000 miles
When speeding up on a highway, the temperature gauge reaches the maximum, even though the engine cooling fan is working. So I stop and wait for about 10 minutes until it cools down to 110°C. When driving at 60 mph or more, the coolant level raises and falls, losing about 250ml. In the agency, I've been told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Can anyone help me please? My car is an Amarok 2011 std Highline.

Check the thermostat and whether there is some water leaking through the radiator or any hose. I recommend you to check as well the temperature sensor, which might be damaged and so the engine cooling fan starts when the engine is too hot, consuming all the water. Regularly, fans should start at 90°C. Hope it helps.

Hey mate I have The identical problem with my car 2017 Amerock I’ve replaced the water pump thermostat EGR Did you end up resolving this problem how did you do it please !?

Did you find the problem guys?if you are losing water fast and you didn't see it it's a bad thing. If you don't probably the temperature sensors or the thermostat is faulty. Or maybe you have a blocked radiator. If pump is faulty you will hear the noise of the bearing.

Engine failure

Volkswagen Amarok 2010  45000 miles
Hi, I have some problems with my VW Amarok: the engine indicator is turned on and the preheating light blinks; engine revolutions do not exceed 2500 rpm. I was told it was the EGR valve, but I replaced it and nothing happened.

My vehicle had your same problem until, one day, it stalled and did not start any more. My mechanic explained that the problem lies in a kind of regulator that is located behind the dashboard. It is now being repaired, so I'll let you know in a couple of days which was the result, and the solution as well.

Buddies, the problem is not the engine, but the van itself. It has evidently got too many manufacturing problems and the only solution I have found is to change the vehicle.

Hi, I wanted to share that, last Saturday, I cleaned the EGR valve and, since then, the yellow indicator has not turned on again and the van has been working perfectly. In my case, there was no blockage neither in the removable parts nor in the pinion that makes the valve spin. I cleaned all the parts carefully, especially the place that seems to be something magnetic. The valve is a box with an internal cavity and, in the cover, there is a kind of coal. After assembling everything back, I've had no more inconveniences. Hope it helps.

I want to explain how I repaired my van: when opening the hood, on the right side of the engine (the co-driver side) on the top is the EGR valve. It's got a plastic black cover with a plug of 3 wires. I removed the 6 Torx screws, the cover and a spring that makes electrical contact, careful not to lose it. Inside, there are two plastic gears which I removed without any difficulties, as well as the spring that one of the screws has got. In my case, the last plastic gear with the spring was kind of stuck halfway. There are two curved holes under it, through which I added WD40 and also in the gear shafts. I moved it until it spined softly and assembled everything back (paying attention not to forget the spring that I mentioned at the beginning). Since then, I have already driven many miles without a problem. Hope it helps you save some money and time. If it helped, please let me know. Good luck.

There are two possible causes: the EGR valve or the auxiliary water pump

Hi, I am a VW specialized mechanic and I recommend you not to complicate things more than necessary. The Amarok is a van with an important electronic system and, when it loses pressure or it feels flat, you need to check the intercooler hoses, instead of replacing the EGR valve which is really expensive. By replacing them, your problem will be solved.

I have a VW Amarok (2012) with an overheating problem. Done all the usual steps, including changing both water pumps. Are there any unusual reasons that you could suggest>

I recommend you to check the turbo and its valves; your failure must be there.

Acceleration failure

Volkswagen Amarok 2011  55000 miles
My vehicle does not accelerate higher than 60 mph. The overheating indicator blinks and the Check turned on. Where is the EGR located?

That is an injection failure. I recommend you to connect the computer to know which precise part of the injection is causing your problem.
NERVIE98 from United States 9 years ago
It might be the EGR valve but also the secondary water pump. These two things make the overheating indicator start blinking.
