Only starts when it wants to no rime or reason. After towing it to a mechanic, it started up for him he found no problems and sent me home with a 500 dollar bill and clean bill of health. Next day same problem off and on. Going to try replacing the fuel filter, then the fuel pump.

It was the fuel pump

The reason why it does not start when hot and only starts when it has cooled down a little is because your Timing belt stretches a little when hot and your engine management picks it up and immediately shuts it down. So change the timing belt and you'll be sorted. Stay away from VW dealers, they going to make you buy things you don't need.

Starts runs fine then after shut off cranks and won't start up again new fuel system working well speed sensor replaced by Volkswagen with rear main seal new timing belt kit and water pump serpentine belt replaced only use premium diesel new common rail and sender fresh injectors no fault codes coming up
