Starting failure

Renault 19 1996  300000 miles
Once warm, the engine cannot be started again. Might it be the injection pump? The starter is working properly.

Check if your ignition coil is warmer than usual. I have the same problem right now and I will try replacing it. I'll then tell you what happens.

Revolutions failure

Renault 19 1992  135000 miles
When braking, revolutions raise to 1500 rpm, they are then maintained at 1000 rpm and finally drop to 500 rpm, almost at the point of stalling.

It might be sucking to much air from the vacuum servo. Check that.

Starter failure

Renault 19 1995  250000 miles
Hi, what happens to me is that, in the morning or when cold, the engine starts without a problem. But, when warm, the starter does not turn. I would like to know if it is the coals, a relay or another thing what is causing this problem.

The starter coil might need no to be welded again.

Temperature raise and water leakage

Renault 19 2000  108000 miles
The engine warms up only to the medium level, but there is water leaking through the deposit. The radiator has been cleaned, but the problem persists. What might be happening?

It must be that the cylinder head gasket got damaged. The same happened to me with my 19. When air from the compression enters, the cooling circuit does not work properly and the engine cooling fan sensor is not allowed to start working.

Fails when driving

Renault 19 1998  195000 miles
Hello, I have a R19 engine 1.8 and my problem is that when driving, at high or low speed, the engine suddenly cuts sharply, and immediately then continues working properly. It seems as if it were an electric failure because the cut is absolutely dry. I've changed the module, coil, wires, spark plugs, but everything remained the same way. Has this ever happened to anyone? Could you please help me? Thank you very much.

Change the MAP sensor, buddy, the one that is near the coil. When this happened to me I also thought it was an electric failure, but it was when I replaced this sensor that the problem disappeared.

It might be a thermostat problem. I recommend you to check if the sensor is working, or the chip from the sensor more precisely. Also check if there is current reaching the thermostat or there is a damaged wire.

Acceleration failure

Renault 19 2000  1800000 miles
Hello, everyone. I have a Renault 19, 1.6, model 2000 and it occasionally happens that, when accelerating slowly, the engine does not respond properly; it accelerates and decelerates continuously as if fuel was not reaching correctly. However, if I accelerate it deeply, there is no failure at all. The check light remains turned on permanently. At idle speed, the car has got a discontinuous power cut. I've already changed: oxygen sensor, distributor cap, wires, spark plugs and the steering wheel sensor. When scanning the vehicle, no failure is indicated. What might be wrong? Rotor? Coil? Could you help me, please?

I have a similar problem and the only thing I have found out is that the carburetor rubber base is cracked. I believe that, when changing it, the failure will disappear.

Buddies, I would like to share how I finally solved the problem. On the opposite side of the axle from the accelerator's butterfly valve, there is a platelet that has got a plug and four screws. It is the TPS sensor. I removed it and cleaned it carefully with alcohol and a cotton swab; a lot of dirt came out of it. I then assembled it back and the failure disappeared. The vehicle is now working perfectly. Thank you very much for your help.

Heavy starting and stalls SolvedSolved

Renault 19 1998  480000 miles
The vehicle feels really heavy and, after being turned on for a while, it suddenly stalls, as if it was left without electrical current. I bought a new battery and distributor, but the problem persists.

Good night, haseltine. By what you are telling us, the battery's charge gets depleted. The problem must be that the alternator needs to be repaired urgently.

I've already solved the problem. I changed the distributor system to a platinum one and also the starter, and the failure disappeared. Thank you very much for your response.

Sidelights

Renault 19 1996  170000 miles
Sidelights suddenly turned off and only the high beams indicator light appears on the dashboard. The problem is not in the fuse box. What might have happened?

I recommend you to check the main commands fuse box (big fuses) that are opposite to the battery.

I wanted to share some suggestions and comments from my own experience. No car can burn the cylinder head gasket unless the radiator is blocked or the water pump or timing belt are broken. If the cylinder head gasket burns regularly, it must be that it is twisted. Mechanics tend to assemble it and leave it like that, without brushing it, so that you return to them quickly. 19 vehicles do not consume any water if the circuit is free of dirt and the temperature sensor is original. Even more, after the clutch is serviced, the car tends to fail when starting the engine or the discs break down, and that is because mechanics do not assemble it properly
