Noise in the timing chain SolvedSolved

Nissan Altima 1999  200000 miles
I bought my car 4 months ago and everything was fine, then 2 months ago I did an oil change and a noise appeared (as if the engine was diesel). This was a couple of minutes after starting it, once it warmed up. I took it to the mechanic to change the timing kit but the noise is still there. He said that the monoblock is welded and that the problem might be there: that it got damaged, was welded and a lubrication channel might be obstructed. Do you think that could be the problem?

I took it to another mechanic, the oil pump was fine, he suggested that it could be a lubrication line that might be obstructed, and that we could also try fixing the chain tensioner. What would this imply?
cecil from United States 8 years ago
I had the same problem, they checked the camshaft and timing kit, which was replaced. After this the noise stopped, but only for 2 days. A friend who also has an Altima and is a mechanic told me that if I don't use an original kit the noise will never go away. In my case I used a generic one. Let me know if you have more information

Problem solved: the hydraulic tensioner was changed for a mechanical tensioner and everything worked fine after that.

Weird squeaking noise SolvedSolved

Nissan Altima 2007  116000 miles
I own a 2007 Altima S. When I accelerate it over 2000 rpm it makes this noise, this squeak. I turn it off, on and goes away. If I use it under 2000 rpm and 40 mph it doesn't make the sound, but if I go over it, it starts squeaking again.

Hi bell, most likely it is the timing belt of your car that is worn, inspect it looking for cracks. Good luck!

Noise when starting the engine

Nissan Altima 1998  131000 miles
When starting you can hear a loud noise as if the cogwheel of the gear struck the steering rack. First we replaced the whole gear and then the steering rack, but it's doing the same. Can anybody help us? Thanks!

My car also sounds as if the engine is striking something, I have a 2005 3.5 Altima and it has nothing to do with the engine, it's the rear base of the engine vibrating.

Engine noise

Nissan Altima 2003  127000 miles
When starting the car in cold, a noise appears as though metals where touching themselves, coming from the oil pump's location. It seems like the pump could not suck the oil properly. The engine released some blue smoke and had to be repaired, and many other parts have been changed, including: cylinder head gasket, oil pump, distribution chain, crankshaft and camshaft sensors, water pump, damper, battery, alternator, ignition coil and engine holders. I have not changed the engine's oil because I was told it was clean enough, can this be the problem? I was also thinking about the IVT or solenoid control valve, which controls the oil's pressure. Can you tell me about your experience? Thank you!

Thanks for the advice, it didn't help other in other forums I've read but I will give it a try.
Petronella82 from United States 8 years ago
Ok, I could solve the engine and unsteady rpms problem by changing a wire, the distributor's cap and rotor. Now I can throttle the car without problems, but there is a new problem: after 20 mins it stalls and it does not start for the next hour. Any idea?

Solved! The solution was changing the distributor. The problem was the ignition coil inside the distributor, that shut off the engine when it got hot.

When speeding up, the car vibrates and makes an annoying noise which seems to be coming out from the engine. There is a power loss every now and then and it seems to be on the verge of stalling. When I stop the car I have to put it in a parking mode in order to avoid the noise.

It's me again and hope to be able to help someone. Spark plugs need to be replaced after 100000 miles, so this is one of the things I did to my car as they were full of oil. There was a broken gasket and that was the reason why the car was about to stall. I have also changed spark plugs and some damaged wiring.

ABS indicator

Nissan Altima 2006  89000 miles
I was driving on a highway when the ABS indicator appeared on the dashboard and, at the same time, the stereo stopped working properly. An annoying noise appeared, and remained even when I turned off the stereo. After some minutes the ABS indicator finally disappeared. And there was one other electrical inconvenience: the parking brake and battery lights turned on at the same time.

Your problem is in the alternator which is starting to fail. You should check its voltage, which should be between 14.55-14.8 volts. Speed the car up and it should not oscilate.
Sophia from United States 9 years ago
You were right, the alternator was the cause of my problem, I changed it and problem solved. Thanks buddy for your help!

Possible vacuum leak. Use a non-flammable spray on to underhood vacuum hoses when idling. Idle will increase at point of leak. I used CRC MAF sensor spray because it leaves no residue.

Suddenly slow moving forward and power steering stopped working

Nissan Altima 2007 2.4 190000 miles
This morning my wife went to start the car this morning. When she pushed the start button everything started, then when she put it into reverse it would barely move backwards (says it felt like it wasn't getting enough gas, Sluggish) then she put it into forward and tried to move forward and there was no power steering. The brake light on the dash stays on and will not go out. She tried to set the parking brake and take the parking brake off to see if the light would go out but it didnt. I thought it was the serpintine belt, but the more i think about it this sounds like there is a parking brake issue
