Honda Accord 2009 LX Sedan 2.4L 5A
My 2009 honda accord has a grinding noise that occurs when the ignition is activated from a cold start. The noise lasts for approximately two seconds and sounds like the timing belt system is ratcheting into place. This only occurs on a cold start, meaning the engine has not been running for 4 or more hours. I have had this problem for over a year. An internet search located honda service bulletin 09-010 dated 08/17/10 and then updated on 10/21/11. The safety bulletin describes the variable valve timing control (vtc) actuator as being, "defective". Additional internet search identified that th… Read complete

My 2008 Honda Accord is experencing the same cold start timing chain rattle. This is apparently a common occurance and needs to be addressed by Honda in the form of a recall. My Honda has been maticulously maintained since I bought it new. Just got to 100,000 miles. Disappointed in Georgia.

Same issue. Just returned from the dealer to hear the engine is burning oil and my 2009 Honda Accord has only 43k miles on it. When the service writer came back and told me that the issue was the engine was burning oil I was shocked... How could that be? Turns out Honda never contacted me about a service bulletin and is aware of the issue and did anything proactive. Now I am scratching my head and will never buy another Honda. The Tech never mentioned anything and I always take my Honda to get the oil change under regular maintenance reminders... It seems Honda was hiding behind this issue. Never once did they tell me about this issue. Now when you start the car under a cold start you hear the rattle. Then they proceed to tell me its going too cost $6k to repair all the things under there service bulletin regarding this issue. This should have been a recall by Honda. I am going to reach out to the NHTSA to see what my options are.

Problem Accord LX 4cyl 2.4L

Honda Accord 2010 LX Sedan 2.4L 5A
Purchased vehicle 5/8/2014. Driving home and i called my husband and stated that the car sounded like crap--wasnt shifting correctly and just had a horrible sound coming from engine. He stated we will check oil and transmission fluid when you get home. To find no oil or transmission on either. We immediately contacted dealer we purchased from and we had it towed there for attention. Car dealer changed oil(which wasn't much) and transmission fluid were "fine". Passing the buck! we continued to keep an eye on it to find we are putting quarts of oil in it. It has had 3 oil changes in less than 6… Read complete

Car started having excessive oil consumption around 100,000 miles. Received first notice today from american honda about sticking piston rings causing excessive oil consumption. Warranty limitations are 125,000 miles or 8 years, whichever comes first. My car is at 127,000 miles. American honda customer service says this car is inelegible for warranty repair because it exceeds their mileage cutoff.

I bought my car new in 2010 honda accord 4 cylinder. I had been taking my car to get the oil changed on a regular basis to the honda dealership. Since beginning of this year, my car started making noise so it took it to dealer to check the reason. Excessive oil consumption. I am putting 1-2 quarts oil every 3000 miles, even though the oil life indicates 80% or better. I bought this car new and just noticed this about 9 months ago. The oil is not leaking, it is just gone. Also when i start the car first thing in the morning or when is is cold, the top of the engine makes a rattling noise. There is also a loud pronounced noise that sounds like it is either the engine or the transmission, something doesn?t sound right. I am taking it to the dealer to have it checked out.

I did the test many time and they are buying time. If i don't check oil and keep driving then the engine will burst. Honda Accord 2009 EX-L V-6 Coupe 3.5L 5A 755 miles
A noise was coming from the engine. I had it checked twice by an outside mechanic then twice by honda. They all agreed that there are 2 issues. One is per honda's service bulletin 08-017, the rocker shaft bridge has excessive clearance which causes the rocker to rotate and make noise. The second, and most important, is an oil consumption issue, of which honda is well aware of a problem. I currently get 755 miles per quart. I contacted american honda and they will not pay for the repair. *tr

I went to independence honda and asked as to why between maintenance, i was having to add oil. I was told to bring it back when it was needed, and he would document it. Come to find out, they were doing an oil consumption test. Independence honda closed and is now legends honda. He told me to bring it in and they would fix it. Gave me a loaner car. Called me back and said they would have to do a oil consumption test. They claim they only put in about a quart per 1000 miles. Regardless of what my dip stick shows. I will just need to watch my oil. I've had to have my spark plugs replaced twice in the year. Honda continues to actively conceal the defect from consumers and deny there's a known problem. *jb

Oil was added and we were told there could be engine damage.
