2017 FORD Ranger 3.2 diesel at times wont start

Ford Ranger 2017 Ford Ranger 21000 miles
Sometimes the truck can go for a week without a problem and then you try to start it and it clicks twice like a dead battery and other times it keeps cranking and I let go of the key and cranks until I turn the switch back to the off position. I wait about 3-5 minutes and it starts right up. I took it to the dealer and they cant find any error codes but I am the second owner and I saw a report that Ford changed the computer for the same reason so the first owner must have unloaded on me because no one can fix the problem.

Thanks Ford tells me to bring the truck in when I have the problem but it never acts up when I take it to them. I saw on the internet some people with the same problem say to change the starter because when Ford checks the voltage it is ok but they claim their is some type of interference going from the starter to the crank sensor. Please let me how it works out for you. Ford change the computer and I still have the same problem. Thanks

Any reason why the brake pedal hardens? I'm having similar issues.
Ford mechanic from United Kingdom 2 years ago
@Local MECHSorry late getting back to you, the hard brake pedal is telling you that it's registered that your transmission has not entered into parking mode correctly and will not allow you to start the vehicle.
Rossi from United Kingdom 2 years ago
@Ford mechanicWhat is the quick solution as it happened to me a couple of days ago. I kept moving the gear lever and eventually it did start but it was embarrassing as nobody could leave the car park.
Ford mechanic from United Kingdom 2 years ago
@RossiWhile your in the vehicle gentle push into park remove ignition key lock doors wait 5 to 10 seconds unlock doors as though your entering the vehicle then restart ,it should have reset.
Rossi from United Kingdom 2 years ago

Having the same issue won’t start and break pedal won’t depress. Per mechanic no error on scanning but need to replace run/start relay, start relay and pcm relay…
Ford mechanic from United Kingdom 9 months ago
@ArvinThe error is the parking sensor, the ecu as not registered that the vehicle is in park mode, switching of and locking the doors for a couple of minutes resets the ecu.

I have exactly this problem. Brake is hard to press and steering locked. It will then not start though it turns over. I seem to just turn it on and off and put it in and out of park and release handbrake etc till finally it suddenly starts and is perfect for a week or two.

Hi aal,
I have encountered an issue with my Ranger about a week ago where i was driving on the Highway and all of a sudden the engine cut out. I did diagnostic test and glowplug 1&3 issues were detected. I removed the Feeding pipe of the Injector pump to the Pressure rail and when i turned the engine the Pump wasnt pumping any Diesel to the Pressure rail.

Stalls when driving

Ford Ranger 1996  180000 miles
Hi everyone, please help me. Some weeks ago, the ABS light started turning on occasionally and it now remains this way. I don't know if it has something to do but I've noticed the air conditioning is not working any more. After driving for some minutes in the city, I noticed a power loss; the vehicle slowed down and suddenly felt a jerk as if the engine wanted to stall. This event repeated two to three times until it finally stalled. At that moment, the engine could only be started after the third attempt. The following day, after driving for three blocks, the car stalled. In this opportunity,… Read complete

Check the engine's ground wire, it might be that the heat or movements made the screw loosen or get damaged, as everything you are talking about is electric. It might be that with the jerks and movements, the computer has desprogrammed and that is why it is giving that failure. Check it as well.

Check the EGR valve, as these valves basically need replacing usually after 150000kms

Glow plugs light not working, diesel pump not distributing diesel to i

Bruce from United States a year ago
If the glow plugs light is not working and the diesel pump is not distributing diesel to the injectors, it could be a problem with the fuel system or a malfunctioning component.
Here are a few things you can try:

Check the fuel pump. The fuel pump is responsible for delivering diesel fuel from the tank to the injectors. If the fuel pump is not functioning properly, it could cause the engine to not start or run poorly. You can test the fuel pump by listening for a humming noise when the key is turned to the "on" position.
Check the fuel pump relay. The fuel pump relay is responsible for providing power to the fuel pump. If the fuel pump relay is not functioning properly, it could cause the fuel pump to not receive power and the engine to not start or run poorly. You can test the fuel pump relay by checking for voltage at the fuel pump connector.
Check the fuel filter. A clogged fuel filter can restrict the flow of diesel fuel and cause the engine to not start or run poorly.
Check the fuel lines. If the fuel lines are damaged or leaking, it could cause the engine to not start or run poorly.
If you are unable to identify the source of the problem or if the issue persists after checking these components, I recommend having a mechanic diagnose and repair the issue to ensure that the problem is properly addressed and the vehicle is safe to drive.
Nicoleen from South Africa 7 months ago
Why is there pressure on injector 4. The fuel line pipe keeps falling out at injector 4 causing the diesel to run out badly.

Stalls when driving

Ford Ranger 1994  147000 miles
When the engine is working, suddenly the electrical current seems to be cut down in the ignition system. What I need to do in these cases is to close the switch, and when I open it back again, the current is back in the ignition system and the car starts.

Did you top up the engine oil recently? Are you sure there is diesel in the fuel? There is quite a bit of smell cross over in these engines because of the sensitive nature of the piston rings.

Something really annoying about that is that there is quite a bit of oil burnt out the ring for this same reason so most rangers will require a 1-2L top up every 5000km. The problem that then comes from this is that it is a variable flow system and can take anywhere between 10 mins and 2 hours to actually drain back into the sump and get an accurate range. If your on a slight incline this can also dramatically affect the reading on your dipstick.

I myself wound up over filling by 200ml thinking that she was running low and the gauge still read at 1/8th under. This caused a heavier smell than usual, so noticeable it was clear from just the small amount on the dipstick.

Sudden jerking while driving and than dies while at a constant cruise

Ford Ranger 1993 Ford ranger 17120 miles
So it started out one day when I hit the gravel back roads that I always take. My truck started jerking and acted like it wanted to die everytime I got on them. But after a few days my truck started to jerk when it was in fourth gear just cruising along at 40 to 50 miles an hour. Than one day it starts doing it in third or second. Than one day it just jerks and dies and than it did same thing but died twice. The thing is , is that it's the same symptoms but never constant. You never know when it will happen or in what gear but you know that within the day, it will happen. I can't figure it out and the mechanics I know are stumped too.

The Engine Code p0191 is the Fuel Sensor Unit , after reading & seeing your video on how to remove & fit it I new that I could do it myself. I went to my local Ford Dealer & told him what I needed & how much was the Sensor Unit, my local Ford Dealer said that I would have to buy the whole Fuel Rail because they don't make them as a Single Unit & the price would be $800 + Fitting the. Rail with the Sensor, I showed this Idiot your video clip & he told me that your video was Wrong , so I told him too shove it I then went to a Spare parts shop & told them what I needed & they had 1 in stock for $370 , all I had ro do was to unsrew it the 1 in the video had 2 bolts but on mine ir was just unscrewing it , so easy I let my truck get COLD when I done the JOB, it took about 20 mins from start to finish. When I took the old part back in they said it's a non - genuine part , I told that Idiot that I would rather have a Bosch part than a Ford part. I just think that this Ford Dealer justs likes Ripping people off & if I ever need any parts in the future I will NEVER go back there. Best regards , Duke

Temperature raise and water leakage

Ford Ranger 2000  250000 miles
Hello everyone, I have a Ranger engine maxion 2.5 turbo diesel and its problem is that the temperature goes high and water leaks through the deposit. Does anyone know what might be wrong?

I had the same problem and it was solved by buying a new radiator plug, as the other one was really dirty and the spring was damaged, and that is why there is a water leakage.
Faith from United States 9 years ago
Hi, unfortunately yours is one of the worst problems of the maxion 2.5. I recommend you to make the amendment of the cylinder head, as well as to change the gasket for a new and original one. Unluckily, the maxion's gasket are made of duralumin, a material which is not too resistent to the high temperatures and pressures generated in the gasket itself. The plugs radiator has nothing to do with your problem. One more thing; it is really important that you put the original motocraf refrigerant in its proper dilution with distilled water, as it raises the boiling temperature of the liquid and thus generate only the right pressure. I hope my comment helps you.
