15 amp engine fuse

Ford Ranger 2001 2.5 diesel turbo, wlt motor 340000 miles
Hi my 15 amp engine fuse keeps blowing, turns off the whole engine, won't start and the glow plug lights won't turn on. What can be the cause of the fuse to keep on blowing every time?

Same issue here did you finally get the problem sorted?
Clarissa from South Africa 2 years ago
Hi, well to make the story as short as possible. We stripped the whole dash area and checked for loose connections, fixed what looked like it needed to be fixed and that was it. We still don't know what exactly the problem was. But the bakkie is driving now so thank goodness. I wish I had a clear answer myself.

Computer needed reset and indeed there are no fuses for low beam nor tail lights. Thx.
Puke Ukengo from other 4 years ago
In the the Ford rangers the BCM or body control module are fitted with the field effect transistor there for if a short occurs the gate closes no voltage is supplied to low beam it prevents the fuse from shorting out or circuit overloading blowing the fuse, possible cause circuit short to ground etc or aftermarket accessories such as spot lamps fitted.to solve the issue take your Ford to a Ford dealership and they will do a diagnosis on your issues, secondly if the problem still present they will run a pcm/bcm reprogramming,if the lights still does not comes on replace the BCM,thanks hope this information help.

I'm glad its not just me with this problem. My left headlight stopped working but still had high beam, so I bought a pair of new globes and replaced them. Still didn't work. I rang Ford and they explained I must bring the car in for a reset, i'm thinking your joking. OK, $55 later, head light is working. One week later, my left tail light stops working. I rang Ford and asked if we need to plug in the computer again and they said the tail lamps are not controlled by the same. They convinced me there was damage to the wiring loom and remove the tub and look for damage. Well!!! Not a five minute job, removed the tub and found nothing. Put the car back together and what do you know, the tail lamp was working again. My left headlight has now stopped working on 4 occasions and now has cost over $200 to reset the computer each time. Today I took the car in to do another reset and it wont accept the fault, so no reset no headlight. Rats have been present under the hood, which I treated immediately and they did minimal damage, but Ford said pull out the battery and wiring loom and look for damage. OK, I'm a sparky, no problem, 3 hours later. All this to no avail, no damage at all. Still no headlight, must go back to Ford for another reset, as I had the battery out, nothing else works.
Sorry to ramble on, but this does your head in and this car is 3 years old and just out of warranty, so thanks for your input, I really appreciate it, looks like probably a new BCM, I hope these are not too expensive. Regards JB.

Hi, have this problem on my 2012 Ford Ranger T6. Dealership says that BCM can no longer be reset and must be replaced, feels like this is a money making scheme, but none the less. Can these BCM's be repaired, or are there any other way to maybe reset it?

I own a Ranger PX2, 2014 model. I have had the Body Control Module (BCM) reset on low beam by my local mechanic twice now because of low beam not working. First case was only left side then both sides. Each reset cost money. It is my belief that when I connect our caravan to the PX2 the vehicle does not accept the led lights of the van. When I operate the right hand indicator it flashes quickly with van connected. Had a Hidrive canopy fitted in place of the tub, it has led lights but no problem for PX2 , indicators work fine. Phoned Hidrive, they fit resistors in wiring to lights because they knew of a problem with Rangers BCM when used with led lights. Found out about a wiring connector that plugs into the 12 pin socket on PX2 and has a 12 pin socket the van then plugs into. The connector is about 300mm long and cost $83 in Australia. This is a factory part and I suspect it is fitted with resistors to avoid the PX2 headlights issue and make the van appear to have conventional bulbs. When I connect a box trailer with conventional globes there is no problem.
I have ordered the connector and the supplier said there are a lot on order, so this may be an indication that the BCM does not recognise led bulbs and could be a common problem. I should also mention that the 2014 Ranger was fitted with conventional bulbs and not leds. Hoping this connector fixes my problem.

Try to disconnect Battery for 30 minutes, then connect back. It may work like normal, BCM reset
Gordo from Australia 7 months ago
Problem now appears to be fixed. Did buy the factory lead and it has built in resistors connected from all actives to ground. Ie left and right turn, brake and park etc. Have now had resistors connected into trailer circuit. All good so far.

A refurbished BCM costs just over $1000 Australian dollars from a Victorian firm Precision Engine Components. Apparently they will refurbish, repair your faulty BCM, requiring sending your underdash fuse BCM unit away. Second hand appear to be around $300 - $400 Australian dollars from salvage yards. Another Victorian supplier Stedi can provide a 'specific' and I mean specific resistance Canbus cable conversion to trick the BCM into allowing LED bulbs to be recognized as similar resistance for the Ranger,
Apparently, the years affected are Ranger PX1 2014 -15 and all Mazda BT 50's 2011 to present. Ranger 2011 -2013 and 2016 on are not affected, go figure? BCM was modified then changed again after 2015.

Same issue here passenger side low beam and fog lamp not working but high beam is. From Philippines any suggestions pls help thank you for answering
rosco from Australia a year ago
It is possible with a relay to use the working side low beam light to trigger the independently powered relay which then operates both low beam headlamps, if the BCM has a fault and cannot be reset.

Stalls when driving

Ford Ranger 1996  180000 miles
Hi everyone, please help me. Some weeks ago, the ABS light started turning on occasionally and it now remains this way. I don't know if it has something to do but I've noticed the air conditioning is not working any more. After driving for some minutes in the city, I noticed a power loss; the vehicle slowed down and suddenly felt a jerk as if the engine wanted to stall. This event repeated two to three times until it finally stalled. At that moment, the engine could only be started after the third attempt. The following day, after driving for three blocks, the car stalled. In this opportunity,… Read complete

Check the engine's ground wire, it might be that the heat or movements made the screw loosen or get damaged, as everything you are talking about is electric. It might be that with the jerks and movements, the computer has desprogrammed and that is why it is giving that failure. Check it as well.

Radio turns on but no audio

Ford Ranger 2018 3.2L Dual Cab XLT 58000 miles
I have absolutely no audio coming through the speakers, not even a sound at max volume, just pure silence. I do have a 4 channel amplifier connected to a module that converts speaker wire to RCA. There is power to both the module and amp and when you touch the RCA cable, there is a humming sound coming from the speakers. Checked fuses and all OK. Was working fine for a year and a half since owning the Ranger until 4 weeks ago. SYNC is up to date also. What am I missing? Could there be an issue with the head unit?

Battery/Electrical

Ford Ranger 1997 2.3lit 200000 miles
I gave someone a jump the other day. When I got home I must have left something on. I'm not sure. I was in the house for 15 minutes and I came out ready to go somewhere and it barely even clicked. Got a new battery today and now it won't even make a sound. None of the lights inside come on. The horn doesn't even work. It is completely dead. I checked the fuses and they all looked good. How do you check the relays to see if they are bad or good.

Ford Ranger No headlights

Ford Ranger 2009  150000 miles
Hello out there... I have no headlights or running lights,no tail lights,no dash lights, and radio doesn't work... I have no power from the engine fuse box to the headlight plug inside the dash switch... I think the truck might have been in a flood because the interior had a lot of mud and gravel under the rubber floor covering and around all the seat bolts etc.. . Plus the passenger fuse box ground had rust and mud around it and also around the bottom of the fuse compartment. The guy I bought it from didn't divulge this to me but I have my suspicions. I hope somebody has an idea of what I should try. Thanks a million
