2017 FORD Ranger 3.2 diesel at times wont start

Ford Ranger 2017 Ford Ranger 21000 miles
Sometimes the truck can go for a week without a problem and then you try to start it and it clicks twice like a dead battery and other times it keeps cranking and I let go of the key and cranks until I turn the switch back to the off position. I wait about 3-5 minutes and it starts right up. I took it to the dealer and they cant find any error codes but I am the second owner and I saw a report that Ford changed the computer for the same reason so the first owner must have unloaded on me because no one can fix the problem.

Got same problem with 2013 XL seems starter was trying to earth thru 2mm wire lots of smoke after numerous attempts to start! Then 3 mins later starts first time. Local garage investigating Friday, will keep you posted.

Thanks Ford tells me to bring the truck in when I have the problem but it never acts up when I take it to them. I saw on the internet some people with the same problem say to change the starter because when Ford checks the voltage it is ok but they claim their is some type of interference going from the starter to the crank sensor. Please let me how it works out for you. Ford change the computer and I still have the same problem. Thanks

Check your foot brake pedal if it's hard and will not depress all the way it will not start take the hand brake off put it in neutral rock the vehicle until foot brake depresses put back in to park and it will start.
Local MECH from other 2 years ago
Any reason why the brake pedal hardens? I'm having similar issues.
Ford mechanic from United Kingdom 2 years ago
@Local MECHSorry late getting back to you, the hard brake pedal is telling you that it's registered that your transmission has not entered into parking mode correctly and will not allow you to start the vehicle.
Rossi from United Kingdom 2 years ago
@Ford mechanicWhat is the quick solution as it happened to me a couple of days ago. I kept moving the gear lever and eventually it did start but it was embarrassing as nobody could leave the car park.
Ford mechanic from United Kingdom 2 years ago
@RossiWhile your in the vehicle gentle push into park remove ignition key lock doors wait 5 to 10 seconds unlock doors as though your entering the vehicle then restart ,it should have reset.
Rossi from United Kingdom 2 years ago
@Ford mechanicCheers I will try that if it does it again 👍

Having the same issue won’t start and break pedal won’t depress. Per mechanic no error on scanning but need to replace run/start relay, start relay and pcm relay…
Ford mechanic from United Kingdom 9 months ago
@ArvinThe error is the parking sensor, the ecu as not registered that the vehicle is in park mode, switching of and locking the doors for a couple of minutes resets the ecu.

I have exactly this problem. Brake is hard to press and steering locked. It will then not start though it turns over. I seem to just turn it on and off and put it in and out of park and release handbrake etc till finally it suddenly starts and is perfect for a week or two.

I rang ford and told me if I could take to we’re I bought the car which was in Swan Hill in Vic. I took it to them and they fixed in less than a hour and said if it played up again they told me what would need replacing but never had a problem since.

The Engine Code p0191 is the Fuel Sensor Unit , after reading & seeing your video on how to remove & fit it I new that I could do it myself. I went to my local Ford Dealer & told him what I needed & how much was the Sensor Unit, my local Ford Dealer said that I would have to buy the whole Fuel Rail because they don't make them as a Single Unit & the price would be $800 + Fitting the. Rail with the Sensor, I showed this Idiot your video clip & he told me that your video was Wrong , so I told him too shove it I then went to a Spare parts shop & told them what I needed & they had 1 in stock for $370 , all I had ro do was to unsrew it the 1 in the video had 2 bolts but on mine ir was just unscrewing it , so easy I let my truck get COLD when I done the JOB, it took about 20 mins from start to finish. When I took the old part back in they said it's a non - genuine part , I told that Idiot that I would rather have a Bosch part than a Ford part. I just think that this Ford Dealer justs likes Ripping people off & if I ever need any parts in the future I will NEVER go back there. Best regards , Duke

My 2008 turbo Ranger just got wrtten off by insurance co after months of exhaustive independent engineer inspections after filling it with contaminated fuel at Woolworths /Caltex discount fuel. Just salvaged it as economic write-off from Pickles Auctions and would love to see link to the video you mention. The truck was my late Daughter's veterinarian truck so has great sentimental attachment.

Ford Ranger PX Traction Control

Ford Ranger 2013 3.2 100000 miles
I have a 2013 PX Ford Ranger, and each morning when I start off on my trip to work I get to the end of the street and the Traction Control light comes on, then activates the Traction Control. I then need to turn the car off and back on and it doesn't happen again. What could this be??? It only it only happens when the car is cold (I live in Brisbane Australia, so cold is +20c) and happens when I drive at slow speed. Or stop for the first time. I've had taken the car to a Ford Dealership and they spent 6 hours on it can could not find an issue. No error codes are reported on the scanner, and cannot replicate the issue because I've driven the car to the Ford Dealership and I have already turn the car off and back on to clear the Traction Control issue. \

I have same issues with my Ford ranger 2013
MickT from Australia 3 years ago
My 2013 PX1 is having a similar issue. Mainly when I turn right with momentum the stability control light comes up on the dash. I can hear a suction noise from the engine bay which I can only describe sounds like a ship horn! I loose all acceleration under foot and at its worst I have to stop the car and switch it off to reset. This issue does not seem to happen in a straight line driving situation.
My mechanic can’t find what it is as it won’t throw any codes. The only thing that comes up is ’turbo low power’. I have been told that it could be the electronic actuator on the turbo but there is no definitive evidence that this is the actual issue. It could be throwing this code because of the loss in power. I have noticed that when this issue occurs the top hose ( throttle body to intercooler) depresses. Meaning that it is no longer pressurised instead in a vacuum.
Jake from Australia 3 years ago
MickT yeah that sounds a bit different to what the OP described and what others with 'same issue's are claiming...

Mines going to Ford Kilmore on 29th/April so we'll see what they say.
If anyone who has had this issue rectified, or if anyone see this in future send me an email to Jake at MRLS dot com for au
MickT from Australia 3 years ago
Hey Jake,
Yeah my mechanic was having trouble making sense of it. I’ve since taken it to a auto elec and they are certain that it is the turbo actuator. I’ve decided to up the turbo with the Garrett upgrade and throw in a better flowing intercooler followed by a remap. If this fixes the issue I’ll let everyone know.
Dale from Australia 3 years ago
@MickTHow’d you go mate? This generation of ranger have small wiring issues and while I’m not getting the same problem with traction, I do have a problem with the engine hunting idol after turbo engagement until the engine is warm. Wonder if this is also an actuator issue...
@Nhank from Australia 3 years ago

@JakeThanks for getting back to me. Appreciate it cheers mate
MickT from Australia 3 years ago
@@NhankHey fellas,
Sorry, really late reply here...
So it sounds like we are all having symptoms that could relate to some of the same issues. So I think with the traction control issue the first thing we checked was the wheel sensors. If they check out ok keep in mind that if you have a big wheel set up and 2' and higher lift kit, it can set the sensors off over time. It seems to be only happening to the right side.
With my ute I had other issues going on at the same time so it through us right off in terms of diagnosis.
Zach from Australia 3 years ago
Anyone resolve this problem? I'm having the exact same issue 2013 Ford Ranger Hi-Rider 2.2L
Jake from Australia 3 years ago
After a little while of the fault not happening, the fault has returned, very randomly coming on but generally in the morning not long after first start. My ute is at Ford right now actually for a service. They say some fault codes are showing up regarding the glow plugs open circuit and EGR faulty... ???? They had it overnight but said they couldn't see the fault happen (of course it doesn't happen the morning they had it). They said the glow plugs and EGR need replacing anyway ($1700 ish) and this might indirectly rectify the Traction control issue. (The service manager said they've seen glow plugs get old, have this fault code, it be ignored, and the tip snap off into the cylinder... not good so they need replacing regardless of the traction control issue)
We'll see what happens when I get the ute back and if the traction control fault goes away.
Zach from Australia 2 years ago
Hey mate, any updates on your ute?
Jake from Australia 2 years ago
@ZachHey mate, yeah got it back Monday arvo (a few days ago), no faults yet... Buy it'll go periods of time without the light coming on and going into limp mode... so I'm only mildly confident the fault is fixed but hopeful. Ask me in a few weeks haha. (So they changed all glow plugs and replaced the ECG valve. )
Zach from Australia 2 years ago
@JakeAwesome mate! Yes please, if you could possibly post up in a week or 2 with the outcome will be great for all of us to finally pin point or have an idea on whats causing this fault. Thanks for your quick response legend !
rob s from Australia 2 years ago
As I posted before its a blocked ERC valve. My mechanic took it out and cleaned it but it will happen again... just carbons up over time especially with short city driving. They can be bypassed but that is not legal because of the anti pollution regs. Ford has been not help at all

Gilbo from Australia 2 years ago
Hey guys same problem with mine. Knocking sound on the engine, strong gas smell, limp mode, check engine warning and the traction control warning pops up until i found out that the EGR valve is stucked in close position, manage to remove it with difficulty and made it work to easily pushed the valve spring in and out. I got rid of the knocking sound and strong gas smell but the traction and limpmode is still. There. Anyone knows how to reset it?
Zach from Australia 2 years ago
Yes blocked EGR valve. Check for any splits in your intercooler hose’s or the intercooler it’s self, I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a split hose.

2.2lt 2015 hi-rider ranger. Had a problem with trac control light coming on, wheel clicking at low speed only when my vehicle was cold, random limp mode, no fault history on scan tool every time it was scanned. Finally went into limp mode and engine light stayed on after stopping and starting vehicle. Egr fault, put a blanking plate and plugged in a model about $200 all up and I fitted it myself in about 15 minutes. Well I haven’t had a single problem since and I blocked it off about a week ago. This was an on going issue for about 2 years. Was ready to drive it into a tree because nobody could tell me what the hell was going on. Highly recommend doing an Egr block if you haven’t already

Its the wiring harness for wheel sensors need to replace valve body and lead frame because sensors not sending correct signal to auto transmission

Stalls when driving

Ford Ranger 1996  180000 miles
Hi everyone, please help me. Some weeks ago, the ABS light started turning on occasionally and it now remains this way. I don't know if it has something to do but I've noticed the air conditioning is not working any more. After driving for some minutes in the city, I noticed a power loss; the vehicle slowed down and suddenly felt a jerk as if the engine wanted to stall. This event repeated two to three times until it finally stalled. At that moment, the engine could only be started after the third attempt. The following day, after driving for three blocks, the car stalled. In this opportunity,… Read complete

Check the engine's ground wire, it might be that the heat or movements made the screw loosen or get damaged, as everything you are talking about is electric. It might be that with the jerks and movements, the computer has desprogrammed and that is why it is giving that failure. Check it as well.

Check the EGR valve, as these valves basically need replacing usually after 150000kms

Injector failure

Ford Ranger 2013 supercab 300000 miles
Hi. My 3. 2 Ford Ranger t6 simultaneously kills injectors. I have changed, the tank pressure pump, the injector pump and common rail as well as the injectors. It will fail on cylinder 1 injector, if I replace it, it will fail cylinder 3 or 5 injector.

If the truck is parked and i rave the truck hard, above 2000rpms, nothing happens, but once I drive it and try to do a hard acceleration, the injectors will start to simultaneously fail again

I replaced all injectors with new ones feeling that maybe the repaired ones had an issue, the same thing eventually happened.

I now feel it is an electrical problem or error code message from the computer box... I need help

What could be the problem

Car cranks but won't start

Ford Ranger 2013  112130 miles
My ford ranger 2.2 won't start after major repair. The fuel pump in the tank runs non stop and also the starter will only crank for less than 5 seconds. I've noticed that the fuel pump only acts normal when I take out the pcm relay then I bought a new relay but it still doesn't act normal. Once the relay is fitted in the pump runs non stop until I turn the key to the off position.

The pump runs for more than a 2 minutes then finally switch off followed by a clicking sound in the pcm relay so I really don't know what to do from here

Intermittent starting problems

Ford Ranger 2017 Ford Ranger 45000 miles
My truck has been in 3 different shops for the same reason. Sometimes it will not start and the starter clicks twice like a dead battery. If I wait one minute it starts everytime but if I try to start if after the two clicks and I dont it just keeps cranking and wont start. I wait one minute and it will start. The shops have combined to change the wire harness, starter, battery twice. Their are no error codes and there are times I can go a week without any problem.
