Wiring problem with negative battery cable

Ford Escort 1998 Ford escort zx2 2.0 DOHC 185000 miles
On the negative battery terminal there is a block with five wires attached to it. I think these wires serve as a ground for the fuel pump, ECU, and speedometer. Well one of the wires has twelve volts witch in turn is blowing fuses. They are the radio, heater, turn signals, speedometer, horn and rpm gage. I've had the alternator rebuilt and replaced the constant relay module. Dang car is still blowing fuses. Does anyone have any input on this

Could be your...split hose...or a catalytic converter is old had it...they get blocked with age...if it starts then stops...check the catalytic converter...heat...
The front of the exhaust converter...box should be hotter then the rear
Do a flsh dash light code check...you can buy cheap fault code readeers these days...but not all will work...with cheaper versions...if your car is OBD 2
Obd1 older systems are harder too get a Fault code reader for...and cars of efi before OBD 1...dont use fault code readers...like modern cars...
You have two types of fuel control...the 2nd is a triming cinstantly...every 0.5 seconds...activated by the exhuast lamber sensor...(these get old and can be damged)...there not too expensive usally...
This could be at fault...
As well...can be a few things really...
Discont the exhaust...before the catlitic cinverter...if you can...if your cat litic converter...isnt joined part of the manifold and down pipe...
Removing it...and then starting the engine and it runs...would designate a bad cat...

Does not regulate and stalls

Ford Escort 1998  130000 miles
I own an Escort 99, engine Zetec 1.8, and its problem is that, when warm, it does not regulate, accelerates and decelerates by itself until it stalls. After that, it starts working back normally but again, once the engine warms up, the failure appears. I've already changed the engine, spark plugs, wiring, filters, even the battery, but everything is still the same. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me what might be wrong.

It is the Idle Air Control Valve that is failing. Good luck.

It is the butterfly valve that needs to be opened.

Your problem has to do with the sensors. Check the oxygen, water and air temperature and TPS sensors, and even the resistance that works with the throttle. If you have an acceleration sensor you should check it as well.

Starting

Ford Escort 1993  15000 miles
Hi, I do not know what is wrong with my car. It does not start immediately and it seems as if the battery was unloaded. I have changed the coil, spark plugs wiring and even the battery, but the failure is still there. Can anyone give me a hand please? Thanks.

Look, I would recommend you to check the battery's wires. Try adding a grounded wire from the cylinder block to the battery. It is either that the battery is not charging properly and it unloads due to a short circuit in a plate, or there is an electricity leakage in a wire or electrical piece. I would as well check the lap counter. Hope it helps.

Will not stay started

Ford Escort 1997 manuel  700176 miles
The car will start but once the car is started it starts to idle low and then just turns off, the engine when running sounds rough. The spark plugs and wires just recently got changed.

Sounds like an Idle control valve, or a vacuum leak!
Missinvizz from United States 5 years ago
It might be the coil also that was what my car was doing. If you notice any lack of power or anything definitely check that.
Boomer from United Kingdom 4 years ago
Scoot...the idle would be fast...if it was a vacuum leak...;)

Sounds like what my 99 escort is doing, it will turn over bit nothing I do, push the clutch in and push gas. It wont idle on its own or stay started. Pushing the gas doesn't help

No injected pulse

Ford Escort 1999 Sohc 4 cyl. 100000 miles
1999 Ford escort. Have feul pressure and spark at spark plugs. But no injected pulse. Pretty much checked everything still no start. Checked wiring and ground connections. Even tried another ECU still nothing. Replaced cam sensor still nothing. Was going to change crank sensor but It does have spark. Could the crank sensor still be at fault?

I have to shift at 1.5 RPMs, I must shift into 5th going 30 MPH

Ford Escort 1996 Hatchback, manual, 1.9 150000 miles
Hello! I am having some trouble figuring this one out. I drive a 1996 Ford escort. The problem started about a week ago, I was driving and it felt like my engine or something was slipping. Like I was taking my foot off the accelerator constantly, you could describe it as hesitation. The very next day it started jutting very bad. (Jutting is the best word I've found to explain it) I am only able to get to 1.5 RPMs before it starts jutting back and fourth, like I'm in the wrong gear, and when I reach 30 MPH (usually I would be in 3rd but it forces me to shift to 4th) I have to shift to 5th and I… Read complete
