Fumes

Ford Escort 1998  190000 miles
I bought an Escort clx 1998, engine 1.8 Zetec and, when checking it before the purchase, it did not fume through the exhaust nor aerate through the oil meassuring stick or through the oil plug. The thing is that, less than 24 hours after buying it, it started fuming and quite a lot through the exhaust. There is no reaction problem and no engine noise is heard. It has also started consuming oil. What should I do to it? I would appreciate your help.

I have a turbo diesel Escort which had a similar problem and finally found out that it was a cracked piston that was causing the fuming and oil wasting problems.

If your vehicle only aerates through the escape, it might be that a valve guide is broken.
